Immediately
upon concluding the
Sermon on the Mount, Messiah had a huge following:
"When He came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him." Matthew 8:1
Why were these crowds following Messiah?
Because the needs were so great, and He had the ability to fulfill those needs. In other words, for the multitudes, it was not so much about Him as it was about them - they all needed something. It would not be hard to find something to criticize in that fact. One could point out how self-centered the people were, how righteousness was not their aim - just getting their problems solved. I don't think that analysis would be wrong, but I also don't think it would be a fair way to look at this.
When you have a persistent problem you cannot solve - say, a debilitating malady such as leprosy - I'm pretty sure you can't readily think of anything else. Interestingly, spirits were the problem for a lot of those people - evil spirits. In any case, when you have such a besetting problem your issue is all you can see. For the people to be able to really hear what He was saying He needed to clear away the problems that were clouding their vision and blocking their ears. He did for them what no one else could do:
When evening came, they brought to him many possessed with demons. He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases.” Matthew 8:16-17
Why is the world so filled with craziness today? The fact is MANY PEOPLE are possessed with demons today! Many are sick, and modern medicine is not working for a lot of those people. In other words, people are obsessed with their own problems today, just as people were in the first century. They are looking for an answer.
The only answer remains the same: Y'shua Messiah.

The Barbarism of Obscene Greed

The popular narrative tells us that mankind has never been more advanced than we are right now. One measure of this is how caring we are as a society. We care about global warming, polar bears, dolphins, whales, deforestation, and air quality. We even care about bovine flatulence, which suggests there is not much in the environment we don't care about. We also care about hurting people's feelings, especially if you are L, G, B, T, or Q - or whatever else - heaven forbid that any of us should ever even think a thought that might hurt the feelings of any of you.
So what don't we care about?
We don't care about those who are weakest and least able to care for themselves.
I could be talking about the 68,000+ abortions of helpless unborn babies that occurred today. Certainly, this obscene infanticide makes my point, but that's not where this particular commentary is going. [See http://www.numberofabortions.com/]
Today I'm thinking about those who are economically weakest and least able to care for themselves. Apparently, the human race as a whole considers these people of such unimportance that 21,000 of them literally starve to death every day, and we don't even notice. By the way, most of those are children, which makes absolutely no difference to the human race either, apparently. [See http://www.poverty.com/]
Death by Obscene Greed
These
deaths make no sense in a world in which a mere 8 men own as much wealth as the
POOREST HALF OF THE ENTIRE WORLD POPULATION. A small fraction of the bank
interest these men are receiving on their gargantuan fortunes could more than
feed these starving thousands - and yet they continue to starve. ["Am I my
brother's keeper?" comes to mind.]
This statistic comes from OXFAM.ORG, an anti-poverty organization. A few years ago I remember being shocked to learn that 80 people had as much wealth as the poorest half of the world. In 2015, in the Beasts of Daniel Seminar, I reported the then-latest figure of 64 people owning as much as the poorest half of the world. Now, in 2017, 8 men own as much as the poorest half of the world. That is a truly stunning figure.
Do you see a trend here?
The rich are getting wildly richer while the poor are struggling, and in many cases, dying. For some it is not quite that drastic yet, but the middle class is shrinking, and every group but the 1% is declining. Clearly, the system is heavily weighted in favor of the rich. Do you hear that huge sucking sound? That is the sound of systemic obscene greed sucking the wallets out of 7 billion pairs of pants.
In 2008 I saw this coming, and told you so in the Revelation Series of radio programs I did back then. This is the black horse rider, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I even told you then that a global economic crisis was coming that would be good for the wealthy, but not for the rest of us - and this is exactly how this has been playing out.
What is the answer to this? Socialism/communism? That is a knee-jerk reaction to the problem, but that just leads to totalitarianism. Is reforming capitalism the answer then? No it isn't and here is why: capitalism has been completely co-opted by the wealthy. They now have stacked the deck in their own favor, so the built-in checks and balances of capitalism aren't working anymore. They have rigged the game and they are not about to give up their advantage, as this weeks elite Davos meeting has underscored.
So where does that leave us? Here are two possibilities:
1. The human race will self-destruct under the weight of its own evil.
2. Messiah will return just in time to save the day.
Fortunately for us, Messiah cares more about us than a lot of us seem to care about each other. Be encouraged! The Scriptures assure us He is coming soon.
