Tsiyon Answer:  Thanks for writing. I don't know what W.E. Blackstone taught about Petra. What I believe about Petra I have learned from the prophets.

In ancient times the place we today call "Petra" was known as Bozrah of Edom. Bozrah was a fairly common name in ancient times, meaning "sheep pen." Indeed, Petra is a lot like a sheep pen, with a narrow entrance and a large enclosure, all with high walls. YHWH prophesied that He will gather the Remnant of Israel to Bozrah.

I will surely assemble, Jacob, all of you;
I will surely gather the remnant of Israel;
I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah,
as a flock in the midst of their pasture;
they will swarm with people. Mic 2:12

There are a number of prophecies that suggest that Messiah will return to Bozrah and defend His people there, defeating the enemy at that time. Here are a couple of those prophecies from Isaiah:

YHWH has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
And a great slaughter in the land of Edom. Isa 34:6

Isa 63:1 Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this who is glorious in his clothing, marching in the greatness of his strength?
“It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
Isa 63:2 Why are you red in your clothing, and your garments like him who treads in the wine vat?
Isa 63:3 “I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no man with me: yes, I trod them in my anger, and trampled them in my wrath;
and their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing.
Isa 63:4 For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.
Isa 63:5 I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore my own arm brought salvation to me; and my wrath, it upheld me.
Isa 63:6 I trod down the peoples in my anger, and made them drunk in my wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”

There is a lot more to be said about this, which I hope to put in a future volume on Revelation. However, these verses are sufficient to show that Bozrah of Edom will be a place of refuge where Messiah will come to fight for His remnant at His return.

Isaiah 19 speaks of yet future last days events primarily having to do with Egypt, and then their outcome in the Messianic Kingdom. In the Kingdom all hostilities between Egypt and Assyria will cease, and highways will be created linking the two nations to aid them in gathering to worship YHWH together. Egypt, Assyria and Israel will be like three brother nations in those days, each enjoying the fellowship of one another and each enjoying the blessing of YHWH.

Without watchmen to sound the alarm before impending judgment falls, the people will perish, not being ready for the evil day. Without the shepherd to lead them into good pastures the sheep are scattered, hurting and starving, and are a prey for wild beasts. Watchmen and shepherds are vital to the plan of YHWH for His people in these last days. Our program this week reveals important details about both watchmen and shepherds that will help to put you in good stead for the days ahead.
