Listener Q + A

Listener Comment - What is Life vs. Salvation?
Is receiving life based on the deeds of obedience in the relationship to the rainbow covenant the same thing as salvation? If not, then what is receiving life if it isn’t salvation?

Tsiyon Answer - Life vs. Salvation
"Salvation" is only through faith in Messiah. Those who "are saved" in this life are called "in Y'shua" and have the hope of being raised at the first Resurrection to forever be with Him from then on as explained by Paul here:

For if we believe that Y'shua died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Y'shua. For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with God’s shofar. The dead in Messiah will rise first, then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1Thess 4:14 -18

Revelation calls this "the first resurrection."

I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Y'shua, and for the word of God, and such as didn't worship the beast nor his image, and didn’t receive the mark on their forehead and on their hand. They lived, and reigned with Messiah for a thousand years. The rest of the dead didn't live until the thousand years were finished. This [resurrection of the overcomers in Messiah] is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over these, the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Messiah, and will reign with him one thousand years. Rev 20:4-6

Those who are saved and who are raised in the "first resurrection" will face no further judgment. They will rule with Messiah for the thousand years and "will be with the Lord forever." At their resurrection they will receive glorified bodies like His to suite them for their eternal reward with Him. (1 John 3:2)

Revelation tells of another resurrection that happens at the end of the thousand years. This cannot include those who are "in Y'shua" since those people have already been raised in the "first resurrection." This resurrection includes ALL the remaining dead from all ages:

I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Sheol gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works. Death and Sheol were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. If anyone was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire. Rev 20:12-15

Notice that all of these people are resurrected to judgment. They were never "saved" since they must be "judged."

The criteria for judgment is stated: "The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works."

These people who had not known Messiah will be judged "out of the things which were written in the books" - we can understand these books to contain the moral elements of the Rainbow Covenant (and whatever else of the truth was revealed to them). Since all persons are included in that covenant it applies to all people setting forth Yah's minimum requirements for life. The judgment will be "according to their works" - i.e. what they did and did not do during their lifetime. (I'm not making that up. What about "according to their works" do we not understand?) The book of life is also opened. We can expect the book is opened for a reason - that those who are judged worthy of life are written there. All others not so written will be "cast into the lake of fire."

Listener Comment - What is Life vs. Salvation?
What happens to that person if they received life? Do they live forever with Messiah? If that is the case, then isn’t that the same thing as salvation?

Tsiyon Answer - Life vs. Salvation
Those who receive "life" at this Great White Throne judgment are not promised glorified bodies, as are the "saved." This means that they will be ordinary earthly humans, after the pattern of perfect Adam in the Garden. Also, they are not part of His Bride and do not share in the intimate relationship with Him that the "saved" enjoy. They will enjoy His favor, but as subjects of His kingdom - not as joint rulers with Him.

Then what happened to the Scriptures that talks about that salvation is only through faith in Messiah and it is not based on our deeds?

Tsiyon Answer - Life vs. Salvation
These verses in context are intended for those who put faith in Him to be part of the first resurrection. "The rest of the dead didn’t live until the thousand years were finished" so are not part of that blessed group. However, since it is Y'shua who will do the judging we can be sure that those who receive life will ultimately do so as a gift from Him on account of His sacrifice.

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins [i.e. His talmidim], and not for ours only, but also for the whole world [i.e. the rest of the righteous of all ages].  1 John 2:2

Messiah Himself explained how this will happen:

For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself. He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man. Don't marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice, and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment. John 5:26-28

IListener Comment - What is Life vs. Salvation?
I understood and believe that Noah and Abraham was recognized as being righteous b/c of their faith in YHWH. (Yes they were obedient too) But they put their faith in YHWH. Again our salvation isn’t based on deeds.

Tsiyon Answer - Life vs. Salvation
No, OUR salvation is not based on our deeds. However, the judgment of "all that are in the tombs" at the general resurrection of mankind IS based on deeds: "those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment." These are Messiah's words, not mine, and they clearly refer to "good" deeds as criteria to receive life. Perhaps those who do good, are good, in Messiah's opinion?

    From Eliyahu

I hope you get as much out of this week's program as I did in preparing it for you. This information is fairly astounding, exposing as it does, the seventy original unbelieving Gentile nations (from which all of our modern nations have sprung) as culpable for all of the suffering brought on by their actions in deliberately abandoning and rejecting their Creator. This explains pretty much most of what you've ever wondered about. One other thing, Tsiyon Ministry Partners - be sure to download the pdf file so you can follow the photos of the ancient Greek art, while you hear the art interpreted in the program.

    Blessings and Shalom,

    Eliyahu ben David
