A Psalm of Praise, of David. I will extol You, my God, O King, And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever. Psalm 145:1,2

This is an acrostic psalm, with every verse starting with a consecutive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. I mention this to say that David put no small care into constructing this Psalm in a delightful way to bless His King! This striving after excellence in everything relative to YHWH is a very good example of what David means by blessing YHWH daily and forever - that is, always. In this very Psalm David is modeling this for us.

Let's consider this word, translated as "bless" (Strongs #1288). This is AHLB# 2039. The word has to do with bended knee, as in giving homage, giving a gift, or giving honor from bended knee. In verse 1 David says;

I will extol You, my God, O King, And I will bless Your name forever and ever.

The emphasis here is on YHWH as God and King. The governmental order of the Kingdom is thus in view. David bows before his rightful Superior, acknowledging His rightful place in the Kingdom Order. David was delegated to be king on earth, but David bowed before YHWH daily and always as King of the Universal Kingdom - and as King of his own heart.

I believe what David was saying is that every day he was deferring to YHWH as King in everything, and that he was joyfully bowing before YHWH to bless Him and not himself, throughout his reign and his life. Also, that he intended to keep on doing that forever.

Bending the knee has to do directly with worship. Of course this includes specific times of prayer, or worship through music, dance, and group worshipful expression. David did all of those things in blessing the Name of YHWH. However, that is not all there is to worship. David had a bended knee of the heart that blessed YHWH daily and always, in all things. This constant bowing before YHWH from within the heart, manifested in the life, is the true essence of Davidic worship! It is the constant offering of one's self as a gift for the use of YHWH. This is worship as modeled by David, his faithful Nazarean descendants and the greatest of them all, the Messiah, Y'shua the Nazarean.

The early followers of Messiah were instructed in this sort of blessing of God. For example, Paul wrote:

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Rom 12:1

In this newsletter we include a couple of questions on the timing of the "rapture." Listeners ask us about this a lot lately. I'm not surprised, given the many signs of the times in evidence all around us. I also find it interesting that many who once accepted the pre-tribulation timing of the "rapture" are now re-assessing that view and are finding it wanting. Many of these folks are returning to the apostolic position on this, that the "rapture" of believers will occur at the Return of Messiah at the end of the Tribulation. Having returned to this truth, they see the necessity of preparing themselves spiritually for the upcoming events of this age. In this light, the other question above - how do we bless YHWH? - is highly relevant indeed! It is learning to bless YHWH at all times in the same way that David did that will see us all the way through these troubled days.
