Listener Q + A
Listener Comment - "heavenly mother?"
Eliyahu, I recently listened to your teaching on the Mystery
of God in Genesis #184. I was sitting outside yesterday evening
taking notes when two young people from a local church came up
to my home to invite me to their congregation. They began
telling me that they believed in the heavenly mother and that in
Genesis where it says "Let us" they believe God was talking to
His wife and they went on to say that in Revelations where it
speaks of the "Spirit and the Bride says come" that the bride is
God's wife. It was so ironic because I was taking notes on #184
when they came up to my home. I began explaining to them what I
learned from you and they started arguing with me. Any how,
where does this heavenly mother stuff come from and is their any
truth to it?
Tsiyon Answer - "heavenly mother?"
Truly,
your Father in heaven is in charge of the timing of all things,
arming you with truth at the right time to resist the pagan lie
He knew would be coming your way. I say that because, the
"heavenly mother" concept comes directly from paganism.
Virtually all of the pagan gods had a female goddess
counterpart. The goddess counterpart of the chief false god in
Bible times was called "Queen of Heaven." Notice how YHWH
condemns "Queen of Heaven" worship through the prophet Jeremiah.
"The children
gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women
knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and
they pour out drink offerings to other gods in order to spite
Me. "Do they spite Me?" declares YHWH. "Is it not themselves
they spite, to their own shame?" Jer 7:18-19
Notice that YHWH
considers worship of the so-called "queen of heaven" a "shame"
to those worshipping her.
Notice this
commentary explaining more:
The deity so
zealously worshipped by the people is called the Queen of
heaven, and is mentioned only by Jeremiah. Besides here, there
is reference to her in Jer_44:17, where we see that her worship
was very diligently cultivated, and that she was adored as the
bestower of earthly possessions. This worship was combined with
that of the stars, the host of heaven, which especially
prevailed under Manasseh (2Ki_21:5). Thence it may be presumed
that the Queen of heaven was one of the deities who came to
Western Asia with the Assyrians, and that she corresponds to the
Assyrian-Persian Tanais and Artemis, who in the course of time
took the place once occupied by the closely related Phoenician
Astarte. She is originally a deification of the moon, the
Assyrian Selene and Virgo caelestis, who, as supreme female
deity, was companion to Baal-Moloch as sun-god. [K&D Commentary
- Jer 7:18]
YHWH stands out in
sharp contrast to the pagan gods. The "wife" of YHWH is no
female deity.
His wife is His
people, Israel, whom he took by marriage covenant as His own, at
Mount Sinai!
Surely, He would
not have done this if there was already a Mrs. YHWH in Heaven!
The Bride in
Revelation is the same Bride YHWH wed at Mount Sinai, namely
Israel. A redeemed Israel will once again enjoy the favor of
YHWH as her Husband and Redeemer. Notice how this language of an
eternal covenant points forward to the blessedness of the New
Jerusalem and the Bride of Revelation. This is the Israel to
come:
Isa 54:5 "For your
husband is your Maker, Whose name is YHWH of hosts; And your
Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all
the earth.
Isa 54:6 "For YHWH has called you, Like a wife forsaken and
grieved in spirit, Even like a wife of one's youth when she is
rejected," Says your God.
Isa 54:7 "For a brief moment I forsook you, But with great
compassion I will gather you.
Isa 54:8 "In an outburst of anger I hid My face from you for a
moment, But with everlasting lovingkindness I will have
compassion on you," Says YHWH your Redeemer.
Isa 54:9 "For this is like the days of Noah to Me, When I swore
that the waters of Noah Would not flood the earth again; So I
have sworn that I will not be angry with you Nor will I rebuke
you.
Isa 54:10 "For the mountains may be removed and the hills may
shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And
My covenant of peace will not be shaken," Says YHWH who has
compassion on you.
Isa 54:11 "O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted,
Behold, I will set your stones in antimony, And your foundations
I will lay in sapphires.
Isa 54:12 "Moreover, I will make your battlements of rubies, And
your gates of crystal, And your entire wall of precious stones.
Isa 54:13 "All your sons will be taught of YHWH; And the
well-being of your sons will be great.
Isa 54:14 "In righteousness you will be established; You will be
far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for
it will not come near you.
The picture is of
a Heavenly Husband and Father with Israel as wife and mother.
The "heavenly mother" idea is pure paganism and is today seeing
a resurgence in new age religion. Many new age ideas are
permeating Christianity today and goddess worship is one of the
principle pagan concepts getting traction among some Christian
groups. This is but one more evidence of the apostasy of this
age.
From Eliyahu
I've been studying the
creation of the universe lately, and every time I do the amazing
Godship, power, wisdom and love of our Grand Creator totally knocks
me out! Here is one of the things I love about studying the creation
- YHWH has filled the creation with clues as to His reality,
character, and the truth of His Word. I'm looking forward to sharing
some of this with you in upcoming programs, but right now I'm
mentioning this one point: Life of the creature (you and me) lived
in disregard of the Creator is not only ludicrous, but is also
wicked. Notice how the apostle, Paul, makes this point:
For the wrath of
God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and
unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in
unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is
evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since
the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal
power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being
understood through what has been made, so that they are without
excuse. Romans 1:18-20
The invisible
attributes of our Creator are everywhere made known to us, first of
all in our own bodies. As we look out from there we see His
attributes in all the creation around us. We did not create
ourselves! All creation points to the fact that we are created for a
purpose. What is that purpose? Should it not be the greatest quest
of our life to find out?! How can people be so selfish as to live
their lives absorbed in nothing but pleasing themselves, with no
thought to even knowing their Creator, much less discerning His will
for their lives? As Paul said, "they are without excuse."
They are also living a
miserable existence. Only life in fellowship with our Creator is
life as it was meant to be lived. Sadly, this world is filled with
many people "who suppress the truth in unrighteousness." Such people
have filled the world with lies designed to turn us away from our
Creator. If those lies ever confuse you just stop and look around.
Look at the starry heavens, look at the earth teaming with amazing
creatures who are the handiwork of God. Look at your own body and
what a miracle it is that you even exist! Be filled with awe of YHWH.
Reach out to know this One who created you, who loves you more than
anyone else ever could. Be filled with the passion to know Him as
your best and closest friend. Then you will discover the greatest
miracle of all - He wants you to find Him and know Him and He is as
close to you right now as a prayer. Go ahead, reach out and touch
Him, right now.
Shalom,
Eliyahu ben David
