A question: Is every physical marriage also a spiritual marriage. Or perhaps ... is every spiritual marriage a physical one?

The Scripture says that a man becomes "one flesh" with a harlot (1 Cor 6:16). This tells us that every physical marriage is not necessarily a spiritual marriage. What makes a spiritual marriage is when that marriage is created by Yah's will and for His glory, whether also a physical marriage or not.

I have a friend that has said the serpent had sex with Eve in the Garden of Eden, and that is how Cain was produced. Where would this idea come from?

Tsiyon Answer - Serpent Seed?

The "serpent seed" doctrine has been around since the 1930’s. Hitler used this doctrine as an excuse [one among several] for his murder of 6,000,000 Jews. According to one source, "Hitler wrote that he was told by Lucifer that Jews were the offspring of Satan having sex with Eve and producing Cain who then was also the father of the dark skinned races. Hitler was told that when he destroyed the Jews and the black race, then the Aryan gods would return to earth and set up the kingdom of god and anoint Hitler as the first human king."

Arnold Murray of Shepherd’s Chapel has been the main proponent of the "serpent seed" doctrine for the past 30 years. This man is a false teacher on a number of counts with four failed prophecies. His serpent seed doctrine claims the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden was actually sex, and that Eve's sin was having sex with the serpent. The story then has Eve being intimate with Adam. After that she is pregnant with twins, with Cain as satan’s seed and Abel as Adam’s.

A simple reading of the verses in Genesis blows away this falsehood. Genesis 3:6 calls the fruit "food" - not sex. Eve gave this food to Adam as well, indicating it is real food and not symbolic of sex with satan. Genesis 4:1 specifically tells us that Adam is Cain's father. Further, Eve gives glory to YHWH for her son, Cain, saying "I have gotten a man from YHWH" - not satan. The serpent seed doctrine is thus quickly and easily proven false.

You have mentioned Asherah. What is the origin of the fairly widely held belief that that was the name of the consort of Yahweh.

Tsiyon Answer - Asherah "Yah's Consort?"

There is a scholarly debate as to whether Asherah was considered the consort of YHWH in ancient Israel.

An 8th century BCE ostracon inscribed "I have blessed you by YHVH of Samaria and His Asherah" (or perhaps "... by YHVH our guardian and His Asherah", if "Shomron" is to be read "shomrenu") .. Another inscription, from Khirbet el-Kom near Hebron, reads: "Blessed be Uriyahu by Yahweh and by his Asherah; from his enemies he saved him!"

These inscriptions have led some to believe that Asherah was viewed as the goddess consort of YHWH. However, this could just as easily be a reference to the Asherah poles that were so prevalent among the sinning Israelites during the period, rather than to the goddess as such.
