Book of Enoch Resource - A Free Gift for You! - Read on...

Our program this week includes material from the Book of Enoch. In fact, I've included a free download of a portion of Enoch that I have especially prepared for you. You can find it at the program post for this latest program, #006.

About Enoch

Though controversial, the Book of Enoch itself claims an ancient Divine origin. Enoch reports Noah explaining where the contents of the book came from: "..my grandfather Enoch gave me all the secrets in the book and in the parables which had been given to him, and he put them together for me in the words of the book of the parables." Thus, the book itself claims to have survived the Flood in the hands of Noah on the Ark. This accords well with the fact that all of the material contained in Genesis, Chapters 1-9, must have been carried forward to us from the line of Seth, through Noah, then through the line of his son, Shem, passed from father to son thereafter, until finally being compiled together in the first book of Shem's descendant, Moses. From there it was guarded and preserved through the centuries as part of the spiritual treasure of the commonwealth of Israel, to be included in your Bible, for you to benefit from today. Since the historical material comprising Genesis was transmitted down to us in this way, why not the Book of Enoch as well?

Arguments for the Authenticity of Enoch

Enoch exerted a powerful influence on NT writers. In fact, a passage from Enoch is quoted by Jude, brother of Messiah. Significantly, Jude attributed the passage from Enoch to "Enoch the seventh from Adam.” This passage quoting the antediluvian patriarch could not be used authoritatively by Jude unless Enoch, from which Jude quotes, was generally held to be authentic by the first century Messianic believers. This view is confirmed by 2 Peter 2:4 where Peter wrote: ..”God didn’t spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved for judgment.” These details are not included in Genesis. However, Enoch reveals these very retributions against the sinning angels in great detail. (1 Enoch 1, Jude 14-15)

Then, there is the NT Book of Revelation, which in some vital particulars, depends upon concepts that originate in Enoch, as my book Announcing: Judgment Day explains.

The influence of Enoch on the NT does not stop with these examples. You may be surprised to learn the term "Son of Man" as a Messianic title comes mostly from the Book of Enoch. It is true that Daniel used the term “Son of Man” as a Messianic title on one occasion. That one use of the term in the Hebrew Scriptures must be balanced, however, against the other 100+ occurrences in which the term describes only ordinary men.

Wider Influence of Enoch

On the other hand, the Book of Enoch reports several visionary trips to heaven by Enoch, in which he uses the title "Son of Man" repeatedly and exclusively to refer to the pre-existent Messiah-to-come. Thus, it appears that by using the Enochian title, Son of Man, Messiah was knowingly fulfilling the prophecies of that book, as the divine Chosen One whom Enoch wrote about. The Jewish leaders must have recognized the full ramifications of the title, as based upon the Book of Enoch, which explains their charges of blasphemy against the Messiah. For truly, if He were not the Messiah (as He in fact IS) then He would properly have been regarded as a blasphemer, in the light of the fuller meaning of the Son of Man title, as defined by the Enochian usage of the term.

These arguments and others persuaded Messianic believers in the generations immediately following the Apostles that Enoch is authentic. “The Book of Enoch was considered as Scripture in the Epistle of Barnabas (16:4) and by many of the early "Church Fathers", such as Athenagoras, Clement of Alexandria, Irenaeus and Tertullian, who wrote c. 200” calling the Book of Enoch “Holy Scripture.” Tertullian also claimed the Book of Enoch had been “rejected by the Jews because it contained prophecies pertaining to Christ.” (Wikipedia – Book of Enoch)

The Problem With Enoch

Despite all these positives there is a problem with the Book of Enoch as we have it today. The problem is: it isn't pure. Spurious material has found its way into Enoch over the centuries, corrupting the purity of its message. Fortunately, resources are available today to separate the wheat from the chaff, which is a problem I'm working on right now. In fact, our free download will give you an idea of exactly what I'm doing on this front.

Enoch contains revelation we need in these last days. Learn more in our latest Midrash. You can listen free on our radio station over this 48 hour period.

From Eliyahu

Y'shua said: "Just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man." Luke 17:26

This midrash considers those "days of Noah" to help you stand firm through these last days. I trust you will find it a help and an encouragement.

Shalom!
