We are presenting a 4 hour Midrash this week focusing on the priestly garments as set out in Shemot/Exodus 28. Perhaps you've seen pictures of these garments before and have thought they look a bit strange, alien. At least, that's how they effected me earlier in my life. After years of study I no longer feel that way. Now, I understand the Divine message which is an integral aspect of the garments themselves. This is a message so profound that it reaches down through the ages to touch our lives today. Please join us for this adventure in Biblical symbology, and be blessed! On another note, we are making good progress on our building project at our Tsiyon Headquarters in Texas. During this last week we've been tearing stuff down in our "pre-owned" manufactured office, which we are converting into our Tsiyon worship center, so that we can re-build it the way we need it. This is not much different than the process we all go through as Yah takes down the rubble from our old lives to rebuild the new, but I digress. We dismantled the entire antiquated sprinkler system in the building, which was no small chore. We also removed portions of the walls and floors to make room for structural reinforcements and cosmetic changes. Besides all of that, as I write some of our volunteers are out in 20 degree weather (the worst prolonged cold snap in Texas in years) re-building the fence along the property line where our building is now located. The timing of building our worship center as we are Midrashing on the Tabernacle in the wilderness reveals Yah's guidance in the midst of His people. Truly, YHWH is as present with His people today as He ever was with Israel in the wilderness! Please pray for us and support us, as we continue the work. Blessings and Shalom! Eliyahu ben David P.S. - There have been some amazing archaeological discoveries lately relative to the Tabernacle. Archaeologists:
The findings, to be displayed this week at Shilo, include hewn holes in which wooden beams could have been placed. Archaeologists say they have found the remains of the Biblical Israelites' Tabernacle at site of ancient Shilo. The Tabernacle precedes the Temples and dates to the period between the conquest of the Land of Israel by Joshua and the rise of King David. According to a report in Yisrael Hayom, the archaeologists will display their findings this week at the Shilo site in Samaria, in a conference that is to be held by the Shilo Organization. Among the findings are holes hewn into the rock at the site. These holes, the archaeologists explain, could have been used in order to prop up wooden beams used in a temporary structure like the Tabernacle. The beams formed part of the walls of the Tabernacle, and they would have had to be fixed to the ground in some way. Next to the hewn holes, in the northern part of Tel Shilo, structures have been discovered that date to the period between Joshua and King David. Earthenware vessles and three large stoves were also found in one of the structures. The researchers say they were not intended for home use. This makes it more likely that the structures were part of a central public facility. In addition, remains have been found of what appears to be the south-western corner of the wall that surrounded the city of Shilo. On the basis of this finding, researchers can also estimate where the entrance gate to the city was, and this in turn has implications for the location of the Tabernacle, which is known to have been located near the entrance gate. Past findings at the hills that surround the site included what researchers say are the bones of sacrificed animals that were eaten by the Israelites who came to Shilo. The dating of the bones corresponded with the Biblical dates for the activity of the Tabernacle at Shilo.
Ancient Jewish Altar Found in Shilo
Ongoing dig in the Samaria town of Shilo turns up ancient stone altar from First Temple times or earlier. An ongoing archaeological dig in the ancient Jewish village of Shilo in Samaria (Shomron) has turned up a stone altar dating back thousands of years. The altar is believed to date back to the period from roughly 1,200 BCE to 600 CE known as the Iron Age. More specifically, archaeologists dating it to what some Israeli researchers call the “Israelite era” – the period of time after the nation of Israel entered the land of Israel, and before the destruction of the First Temple. The altar is 60 centimeters by 60 centimeters, with a height of 40 centimeters, and was found on the southern edge of the site of ancient Shilo. It had been used in the construction of a Byzantine-era structure, however, markings on the stone indicated its use in religious ceremonies prior to its use as building material. Shilo was home to the Tabernacle brought with the Jews as they entered the land of Israel. It served as a site of religious pilgrimage until King Solomon’s construction of the First Temple in Jerusalem centuries later. In the summer of 2013 archaeologists revealed that they had found the remains of the Biblical Israelites’ Tabernacle site. The ancient village of Shilo lies next to modern-day Shilo, a thriving Jewish community established in the 1970s. The community recently opened a new multimedia tourism center aimed at introducing visitors to the area's unique history Need to talk to us? - In the USA and Canada just call us toll free at (888) 230-2440 for help.
