“Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of YHWH is risen on you.
For, behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples;
but YHWH will arise on you, and his glory shall be seen on you."
Isaiah 60:1, 2

Midrash Theme is: Thin Red Line

Today we consider the righteous line of Seth, to whom we all owe our very lives. What happened with that line of Seth continues to have a bearing on the things that are happening during our lives. This is Genesis chapter 5.

From Eliyahu

Greetings in Messiah,

We deal with a lot of prophecy around here, and, admittedly, that picture of the world is looking rather gloomy these days. With all of that, what can keep you and I from feeling kind of gloomy too?  The answer is so simple: be thankful!

Thankfulness is a blessing to everyone it touches, and more so for the thankful person who is spreading that thankfulness around!

Here in the USA this is the Thanksgiving holiday. The truth is, this is the only national holiday of this country that I feel totally good about. Why? Because it is always appropriate for all people to be thankful. Just being alive is a miracle. This amazing earth, with just the right temperature, atmosphere, water, resources, and amazing beauty - this earth we all live on screams out - the Creator loves us! That also means, there is a reason why we are all here. Yes, there is meaning and purpose to life - to YOUR life - to my life. You know what that means? There is love. There is faith. There is hope. There is a future.

Problems too? Yes. But that need not deter us from being thankful. Especially is that true if we have the gift of faith in our loving Father and His self-sacrificing Son. We would be lost, except for that amazing love that wouldn't let that happen! A love that literally knows no bounds, that was willing to pay any price, the dearest price, to save us. Amazing grace!

I am thankful to know the truth, to know that I can always rely on His precious Word. This is a light that never fails me, in every situation. And what of His Spirit, that lives in us and through us, all the while changing us into the image of His Son? Yes, His Spirit turns even the harsh and hard things the enemy brings against us into blessings for our good.

Truly, there is nothing that can defeat the thankful believer. Why? Because we have a sure and everlasting hope that far transcends the short-lived troubles of this finite age. As we look out beyond the narrow confines of this world's troubles, we look into infinite eternal Love in the face of our Father, who has carved out a unique and special place for each of His sons and daughters as part of His own family! At this moment He is even more excited than we are at the prospect of finally and forever receiving us home to Himself! His arms are opened wide to receive us!

Thankful? That hardly covers it. Elated, ecstatic, appreciative beyond measure only begins to describe the appropriate response to the treasure that is ours.

Certainly, a feast with friends and loved ones is in order, to celebrate together so many wonderful gifts. As we here prepare for this special time together, I want you to know that each of you is a blessing that we are thankful for, and in Him you are with us, and a part of our day of Thankfulness here at Tsiyon.

May each of you be touched in a special way today, by His love.

Blessing and Shalom,

Eliyahu ben David

In the shadow of the Paris terror attacks that killed 130 people and as Belgian police sweep the country for terror suspects, the Chief Rabbi of Brussels said Monday that there is no future for Jews in Europe.

Rabbi Avraham Gigi spoke to Israeli radio station 103 FM about the atmosphere of fear in the Belgian capital that has been in a state of near lockdown for the past three days.

"There is a sense of fear in the streets, the Belgians understand that they too are targets of terror. Jews now pray in their homes [as opposed to at synagogues] and some of them are planning on emigrating," Gigi said.

"Since Shabbat the city has been paralyzed. The synagogues were closed, something which has not happened since World War Two. People are praying alone or are holding small minyanim [small prayer groups] at private homes. Schools and theaters are closed as are most large stores and public events are not permitted. We live in fear and wait for instructions from the police or the government," he said.

Gigi gave a breakdown of the Belgian Jewish population which he said numbered 50,000.

"There are 25,000 Jews in Brussels, 18,000 in Antwerp and the rest live in smaller places. There has been aliya to Israel as well as emigration to Canada and the US. People understand there is no future for Jews in Europe," he said.

He added that economic conditions are also pushing young people to leave Belgium and move to Israel or to other places.

"I think making aliya to Israel is an important thing for every Jew," Gigi said.

"It is something that Jews in every generation yearned for. But Jews should not make aliya out of fear because this will result in a poor absorption experience as a feeling that something was left behind will always remain. People should make aliya out of a love for Israel," the rabbi said.
