Recently I read a fascinating article at Medium.com by a writer named Douglas Rushkoff. It was entitled, Survival of the Rich with the catchy sub-text "The wealthy are plotting to leave us behind." The snazzy picture alone was enough to get me to read the article - never mind the provocative title.
The author, who apparently is some sort of tech guru, launched into the article explaining how he had been paid an exorbitant fee to speak to a group on “the future of technology.” When he arrived at location he found himself sitting at a table with "five super-wealthy guys ... from the upper echelon of the hedge fund world." They weren't interested in hearing his speech. Instead, they had a lot of very specific questions they wanted to ask him.
They beat around the bush for a while, until they finally got to the real reason he was there: "Finally, the CEO of a brokerage house explained that he had nearly completed building his own underground bunker system and asked, “How do I maintain authority over my security force after the event?”
It turns out, the big fad among the super-rich is building bunkers to protect themselves from "the event." The event is their highly understated term for "environmental collapse, social unrest, nuclear explosion, unstoppable virus" etc. In other words, any global disaster scenario. They don't define "bunker" as you or I would, either. The "bunkers" they are building are underground, but all similarities to a bunker stops there. They are more like underground, highly secured, luxury resorts than anything you or I would call a bunker.
Now to the question “How do I maintain authority over my security force after the event?” The need for a security force to protect them from the angry and desperate hordes who don't have luxury bunkers after "the event" is assumed. Also assumed is the thought that the world is pretty much destroyed and money is worthless. The rich are used to controlling people with money. How will they keep control when money is worthless? What prevents the security force from killing them and taking over?
Yes, things could get ugly, and the rich are thinking ahead. "The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival. Or maybe building robots to serve as guards and workers—if that technology could be developed in time."
Its interesting how the super-wealthy sell technology to humanity as the key to a bright and thriving future for us all - while at the same time actually expecting technology to take us all to "the event" that will destroy most of mankind. That they are scheming this out and spending billions to implement their survival plans is not very encouraging for the rest of us. Realize, these elite are the people who are driving the 21st century. This discussion was an eye-opener for the author, as he realized "they were preparing for a digital future that had a whole lot less to do with making the world a better place than it did with transcending the human condition altogether and insulating themselves from a very real and present danger of climate change, rising sea levels, mass migrations, global pandemics, nativist panic, and resource depletion. For them, the future of technology is really about just one thing: escape."
Why are the super-rich in such a panic over survival? Do they know something that most of us don't know yet?
It is obvious to me that they do, and they are not going to tell us anything like the truth, at least until they feel they are safely sealed up in their bunkers. Even then, they will leave the masses to a big surprise.
They are the ones who will be surprised the most, as their bunkers become their tombs. YHWH said:
“..I will kill the last of them with the sword: there shall not one of them flee away, and there shall not one of them escape. Though they dig into hell, there my hand will take them; and though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down. Though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out there; and though they be hidden from my sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and it will bite them." Amos 9:1-3 (See also Rev 6:12-17)
This is all rather morbid isn't it? While it is an uncomfortable subject to talk about, talk about it we must. The super-rich are right. This world is a freight train, out of control and headed toward disaster - their disaster. This is the reality that Bible prophecy foresaw long ago, coming to pass now, hastening forward before our eyes.
Despite all this, escape is possible. There is but one hope of survival. Namely, the Man from the empty tomb. He has been victorious over death itself. Bunkers will fail. Technology will fail. Escape will come only to those who follow Him.
Tonight we consider His victory over death, as found in Mark 15:42-16:20. Tonight at 8 PM CST at Tsiyon.Net. His victory can be our victory.
