From Eliyahu:
Shalom friends,
The
modern world is so confusing! Have you ever heard of "overchoice"? Yes, that
is a real word. According to sources cited in Wikipedia, Overchoice
or choice overload is a cognitive process in which people have a
difficult time making a decision when faced with many options. The term was
first introduced by Alvin Toffler in his 1970 book, Future Shock.
Overchoice has become a major problem for ordinary people in the world we
are all living in today.
How could having more choices be a problem, you ask? It works
like this:
"The
satisfaction of choices by number of options available can be described
by an inverted "U" model. In this model, having no choice results in
very low satisfaction. Initially more choices lead to more satisfaction,
but as the number of choices increases it then peaks and people tend to
feel more pressure, confusion, and potentially dissatisfaction with
their choice. Although larger choice sets can be initially appealing,
smaller choice sets lead to increased satisfaction and reduced regret.
Another component of overchoice is the perception of time. Extensive
choice sets can seem even more difficult with a limited time constraint.
Examples of overchoice include increased college options, career
options, and prospective romantic relationships. Many of these increased
options can be attributed to modern technology. In today's society we
have easy access to more information, products and opportunities."

Overchoice
is a serious problem because one can become so distracted with constantly
choosing between many things that they fail to focus on one important thing.
Focusing on one important thing is the only way to accomplish something of
value with your life. OK, to do something of value with your life you need
to focus on one important thing, but what? Again, there are a dizzying array
of potential personal futures, so which one do you pick? That's hard,
because the stakes are so much greater with a decision that potentially
effects your entire future.
While overchoice is seen as a modern problem, recently I
discovered that people were having this same focus problem 2,000 years ago
as they are now. I was reading the words of Y'shua in Luke 14; and I was
amazed at how much things haven't changed when it comes to focus. Here's
what happened in that chapter that speaks to the problem of focus. As
Messiah reclined for a meal with many people present, someone said:
“Blessed
is he who will feast in the Kingdom of God!” Luke 14:15
That was a pretty safe thing to say at the table in 1st
century Judea. Even today you could say that in the midst of most any group
of professed believers without fear of contradiction. Yet, instead of simply
agreeing with the man, Y'shua told a story that got right to the heart of
the biggest problem that holds people back from ever attaining that blessed
state of feasting in the Kingdom. That story underscores the fact that,
while the Kingdom is agreed upon as a blessed thing, when faced with the
choice of actually feasting in the Kingdom, or choosing something else to
do, most people actually choose something of lesser importance! Is that not
astounding?
The
answer here, according to Messiah, is having the right focus - Kingdom
focus. That is, deliberately choosing to put the Kingdom first in you life
every day, above every other choice. That makes sense, because what other
choice is there that can match the blessings of the Kingdom, so far as your
eternal future is concerned? The Kingdom is more important than anything
else, which more than justifies pushing away all and any other choices that
would steal away your focus from that all-important Kingdom goal.
That is where Tsiyon can help. Look above in the blue area
and find the "Tsiyon Partner Action Points."
All of the points listed are clickable for our partners. Deliberately
choosing to take in the spiritual food listed in these Action Points each
week will help you to push out the confusion and focus on the Kingdom, week
by week. Everyone who does this over time experiences remarkable spiritual
growth, and you will too, if you make doing this each week an important
focus of your life. If you are not doing this already, just try it
faithfully for one month. Its for the Kingdom, so give it a try.

Kingdom focus. We all need it. This will help.
Shalom,
Eliyahu
