Shalom friends,
As
we are about to leave one Hebrew year behind to enter into another we
are once again reminded of the cyclical nature of time, as YHWH made it
for His people. Time is a wheel that just keeps rolling forward, and it
is going somewhere! A few more turns and it will take us to Messiah's
Kingdom, because it was set into motion according to the Divine Plan,
and it will accomplish that for which it has been sent. As we look back
to take a look at this year, before we move out of it forever, we can
take satisfaction in good things accomplished for His Kingdom. You, me,
all of us whose hearts are His, live for serving Him and His Kingdom. We
are about
that. We are part of the Plan, and so, as the wheel moves forward toward
His Kingdom, we not only move with it, but we enthusiastically lend our
minds, our bodies and our life's energy to its momentum and purpose. For
us, that service is life itself. There is nothing else worth giving
one's life to!
So what have we
accomplished over this last year? Of course, we all have our own
personal answers to that question. There are so few turns of the wheel
allotted to each lifetime, let us all do our best to make them count for
something worthwhile. Personal growth in our inner man is a primary
consideration. You are a better person than you were a year ago! How are
you better? YHWH has been molding you, perfecting virtue within you,
making you more fit for His service. No doubt He has been doing that in
your life over this year, in ways you can clearly discern, if you think
about it, and in ways only He knows. Either way, this perfecting of your
character has been a very big thing He has been doing in your life. You
are His special treasure and He is always investing so much of Himself
into you. Multiply that sizeable investment by every person who belongs
to Him and you see the Kingdom being built up around the world before
your very eyes! It is being built upon the sure and immovable Foundation
Stone of the Son of Elohim by the greatest power in all the universe -
the unstoppable power of the Love of our Father's heart! Have no fear
little flock, for our Father has delighted to give you the Kingdom!
Tonight's
verses, in Luke 21, remind us of the other side of that story, the
darker side. While we don't want to dwell on that, we must know about
it, because being aware of negative outcomes helps us to make better
choices. There are lessons here that keep us rolling forward toward the
Kingdom, instead of tragically going off course to experience a
catastrophic demise. That's what happened to ancient Jerusalem - twice,
each time totally desolated on exactly the same day of the year!
One of those destructions was upon the 1st Century Jerusalem by the
Romans. This was seven centuries after Jerusalem had been
destroyed by the Babylonians! Our news article below provides scientific
confirmation of that earlier destruction. Clearly, these two
destructions of Jerusalem were no accident. They were both the outcome
and the divine punishment on some very bad choices made by people who
were blind to the very catastrophe they themselves were bringing about.
Among other false assumptions, they made the tragic mistake of thinking
their status as Yah's people would insure that nothing bad could happen
to them. No, that's not how it works. Choices matter. Some choices can
be SO wrong they bring on utter destruction. If it could happen to the
Holy City, twice, it can happen to our modern civilization today. Time
is a wheel, and if you are rolling with the Babylonians and Romans the
way this world is, it can (and will) happen to our modern society as
well. If you know the signs from the earlier cycles of destruction, you
are surely seeing them everywhere before your eyes today, signaling the
imminent demise of the world system. The good news here is, it is up to
each of us to make sure it doesn't happen to us, by making different and
better choices. Yes, YHWH has better things in mind for you, but you
must cooperate with His plan to benefit from those things. And of
course, that is why you are here.
So what are we going to be doing in the
new year? We are going to keep rolling on toward the Kingdom!

NEWS EDITOR'S NOTE: The most recent discovery reported below needs to be
understood in context with similar discoveries of hardened clay seal
impressions, called bullae, from the City of David excavations. Some are
impressions of names of people reported in Scripture. One example is
Gemaryahu son of Shafan, a high official at the court of King Jehoiakim of
Judah, who served just before the destruction of Jerusalem by the
Babylonians (Jeremiah 36:10-12, 25). Another is Azaryahu son of Hilkiyahu, a
priest, who served in the Temple in Jerusalem during the same general
timeframe (1 Chronicles 9:11). The Babylonians burnt the city to the ground,
which fired the clay bullae, preserving them in tact, to be discovered
confirming Scripture in these last days. In view of unmistakable Biblical
names on multiple bullae previously found, the discovery of yet another
bearing the name and title of a Bible character leaves no doubt that what we
already know is true - the Bible is a book of accurate history. I'm
including a photo of bullae with this note from the same time period,
discovered in the excavated remains of just one house in the City of David.

2,600 year old seal discovered in City of David
The seal was deciphered by Dr. Anat Mendel-Geberovich
of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Center for the Study of Ancient
Jerusalem.

A
2,600-year-old seal from the Kingdom of Judah bearing the inscription
“(belonging) to Nathan-Melech, Servant of the King” was recently discovered in
the City of David, according to an announcement Sunday.
The seal was deciphered by Dr. Anat Mendel-Geberovich of the Hebrew University
of Jerusalem and the Center for the Study of Ancient Jerusalem.
“Although it is not possible to determine with complete certainty that the
Nathan-Melech who is mentioned in the Bible was in fact the owner of the stamp,
it is impossible to ignore some of the details that link them together,” Mendel-Geberovich
said.
The statement notes that the name Nathan-Melech appears once in the Hebrew
Bible, in II Kings 23:11, where he is described as an official in the court of
King Josiah.
The clay bulla (seal impression), along with other artifacts, was discovered
inside a public building that was destroyed during the destruction of the First
Temple and was uncovered during the archaeological excavation of the Givati
parking lot in the City of David National Park in Jerusalem. The dig was
conducted by archeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) and Tel
Aviv University (TAU).
“They join the bullae and stamps bearing names written in ancient Hebrew script,
which were discovered in the various excavations that have been conducted in the
City of David until today. These artifacts attest to the highly developed system
of administration in the Kingdom of Judah and add considerable information to
our understanding of the economic status of Jerusalem and its administrative
system during the First Temple period, as well as personal information about the
king’s closest officials and administrators who lived and worked in the city.”
They added the discovery helps provide a window into the era.
“The discovery of a public building such as this, on the western slope of the
City of David, provides a lot of information about the city’s structure during
this period and the size of its administrative area,” they said. “The
destruction of this building in the fire, apparently during the Babylonian
conquest of the city in 586 BCE, strengthens our understanding of the intensity
of the destruction in the city.”
A second artifact was also located during the dig. A stamp-seal was also
uncovered, made of “bluish agate stone, engraved with the name – ‘(belonging) to
Ikar son of Matanyahu,’” according to the release.
Both artifacts will be presented in the Israel Exploration Journal, the
archaeological journal published by the Israel Exploration Society.
