What is Spiritual Warfare?

Some might say; "I've seen that on TV! The preacher puts his hand on the deranged dude's head and screams at evil spirits to come out in the 'name of JE-ZUZ' - then the dude makes a funny look, then passes out and falls on the floor. I think Saturday Nite Live did a skit on that and it was really funny."

That caricature is not Spiritual Warfare. That is a work of emotion and drama designed to separate the susceptible from their money - sort of like TV wrestling. Its a sort of entertainment, but there is little to nothing in it to actually fight against the attacks of evil spirits. That does not mean that evil spirits are not real.

Evil spirits are real. Early in my ministry the Lord led me into ministering to people who had been victims of destructive cults. In that ministry I definitely did encounter demonically controlled people of the spooky kind. However, while the extreme cases are real enough, I also observed that Spiritual Warfare is mostly waged in the battlefield of the mind. The principle weapon of the enemy is deception. A sophisticated system of deception is labeled "mind control." Mind control tactics are not limited to cultic groups. Although the specifics may be different, mind control tactics remain the same, whether used by government tyrants, religious tyrants or business tyrants. In fact, the society around you in this world is pretty much completely ruled by mind control - mind control so complete that the population mind controls themselves and one another just as they have all been programmed to do. Very little that most people take for granted as being true actually is true. There is a complex scam of interlocking lies everywhere you look designed to control your emotions and your mind to make you a pawn - a slave of the system - ultimately a slave of the devil himself - and it is working so well you probably don't even know it.

Spiritual warfare is being waged against you right now. The question is; do you see it? And if you see it, are you fighting back? What kind of weapon do you use to fight something like that?

To know what weapon you need and why, you have to understand what the war is about. In the simplest terms, it is about your free will. Since your Creator made you He wants you to succeed, so He made you in His own image. That means your Creator made you with the ability to make choices, and has given you the tools of truth, reason and character for that purpose. All His ways are based on Truth and Righteousness, so He endowed you with the qualities you need to appreciate that. Notice that He didn't make you like a robot that has to follow His ways - that would not be in His image. He made you so you can make the right choice - but He also leaves that choice up to you.

The rebel spirit we call the devil doesn't respect your free will at all - and neither do all of his little helpers in the world system. That includes the government tyrants, religious tyrants and business tyrants I mentioned earlier, along with all the people that are tripping over one another to imitate them and to get their favor. They are all more interested in power, money and fame than in your free will. In fact, they all want to use you to achieve their goals. Do you want to help them? I didn't think so. That's why they have to find a way around your free will. If they are going to enlist you to help them against your free will they lie to you and deceive you into it. By now they have collectively thrown up a smoke screen that is so thick and so complex - and so effective - that most people don't stand a chance of seeing through it, let alone combating it. They are completely locked up in their brain chains.

There is a key to those brain chains. What you need to win the war is the most precious possession on earth. I'm not talking about money, diamonds or gold. I'm talking about that rarest of possessions: TRUTH. Truth is key. For that there is only one place to look to get you sane and keep you that way - look to your Creator! He has not left you at the mercy of the system with no way to defend yourself. If you would win this war you must embrace and become proficient in wielding the weapons of spiritual warfare He has provided. Take up the Sword of the Spirit - the Word of God - the Word of Truth!

At this point some would scoff, saying; "The Bible? That archaic jumble of myths and stories is of no use to me in dealing with the complexities of this modern world!" The poor fools. They don't even know that the attitude of total dismissal they are projecting has been carefully cultivated within them to turn them away from the only source of truth that can save them! The ignorant fools are total slaves of mind control!

Now, don't misunderstand me here. I'm not endorsing the twisted interpretations of the Bible that the religious system has used for centuries to mind control people. What I'm endorsing is the Scriptures themselves! The Scriptures have been Divinely preserved as the one repository of eternal truth on earth. To use that truth in your struggle against mind control you must get past religion to actually see the message of Truth for yourself. This will take time and it will take work on your part. However, if you seek the Creator's help you can overcome and you can succeed in your battle. Here we turn to the words of the Apostle Paul, who explains:

For though we walk in the flesh, we don't wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Messiah.  2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Yes, the Apostle Paul, who lived 2,000 years ago, knew how to deal with 21st century mind control! The truth that matters is eternal - meaning, it never changes. The same spiritual weapons of warfare that worked for Paul in the 1st century can and do also work for those who wield them in the 21st century!
