Consider this:

Have you ever played chess? It is played upon a board of 64 squares arranged in an 8x8 grid. Each player begins with 16 pieces, typically either black or white. Each piece type has its own unique moves. However, any of the pieces except the king may be sacrificed or taken in the course of the game. The ultimate objective is to checkmate the opponent color's king by placing it under an inescapable threat from which it cannot move. To this end, pieces of one color are used to attack and capture the pieces of the other color, while supporting other pieces of the same color. The game typically involves exchanging pieces in an effort to find and manipulate opportunities to advance one's position in a strategy to win. Although played upon a board, chess is an entirely mental war game utilizing such elements as projection of power, fear of loss, misdirection, and deceit, all for the purpose of manipulating the defeat of the opposing color. The devil is in the details.

[To avoid any misunderstanding with anyone, the black and white I'm talking about above has nothing to do with race, and both colors are entirely equal in the game. "Black and white" is also an age-old metaphor for good and evil. None of this is referring to race. Actually, there is only one race - the human race, putting us all on the same footing in this metaphor.]

In our metaphor the devil's chessboard is the world. [For those who get distracted by such things, I do know the devil's  hand is probably not red. This is a symbol, not meant to be taken literally. It is a spiritual parable, meant to help us better understand something about the real world.] Again, in our metaphor the devil's chessboard is the world.

Which world is that? The Bible reveals at least three worlds. They are the created natural world, that is, the created universe (Acts 17:24). That does not belong to the devil, but he enjoys blurring the lines between that world, entirely owned by the Creator, and his world, his chessboard - which is the world system built like an evil matrix upon the fabric of the created natural world (1 Cor 1:21, 3:19, 2 Cor 4:4). Consistent with his thieving nature, he regards the Creator's world as part of his world too, and treats it accordingly. This brings us to yet another world revealed in the Bible: the world to come after the devil and his chessboard are summarily and forever thrown out with the rest of the trash. That world will be a new phase in His Eternal Kingdom - the forever world (2 Peter 1:11).

The devil's chessboard looks a bit different than the normal layout. It's grid extends far beyond the boundaries of 64 squares. Here is the big secret about the devil's chessboard: all the pieces are players, and all the players on his chessboard, no matter what apparent color, belong to him. He is always playing both sides, all sides on his chessboard. On his chessboard, all his pieces are expendable, and are in fact sacrificed in the course of his game.

There is only one way for you to win on the devil's chessboard. That would be, don't play!

Yes, we live and breath on the same ground as the devil's world. Yet, if we belong to Messiah, we do not belong to the devil's world, meaning we don't belong to the devil anymore!

For He [the Father] rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14 NASB

The "domain of darkness" is the devil's chessboard. If we belong to Messiah it is because the Father loved us, called us, and rescued us out of the devil's domain and "transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son"!

Friends, the Kingdom operates on completely different principles than does the devil's chessboard. The devil's world is like him; full of deceit, manipulation, greed, selfishness, self-will - and worse that I don't even want to mention. Everything about it is a lie, because it all belongs to the father of the lie. To play on his chessboard requires you to be "better" at being evil than the next guy, until you finally are bested by someone who is more evil than you are. All the stuff everyone is striving for, that the devil uses to manipulate and destroy, that is a lie too. Those shadows of a "reality" that doesn't really exist (just like the digital world) are mere bait with no real value. Nothing on the devil's chessboard is worth polluting your inner man to obtain. If you haven't done it already, get off of the devil's chessboard and live for the Kingdom!

The Word of Truth put's it this way:

Don't love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love isn't in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn't the Father's, but is the world's. The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does the Father's will remains forever.  1 John 2:15-17

In the Kingdom, we are not playing the devil's game. We are not playing a game at all. If any of us are, we need to drop those residual habits from the world, stop seeking our own ends through moves of dishonesty and deceit, motivated by the world's lusts. In the Kingdom we must be truth tellers, honest with ourselves, with each other, and with Him. We must be children of our righteous Father. We must grow into sons and daughters of the Kingdom, modeled after the perfect Son. That is how things must be in the forever Kingdom.

That doesn't mean we have to be stupid while we live in this world. Realize the world wants you back. The devil wants you back, to destroy you. When dealing with the world you must be wise to the world's traps, so you don't fall in one. All those who belong to the world are always pretending to be something they are not. All the white pieces are only white on the outside. Inside they are black as coal. The outward niceness is a strategy to get the best of you. They are not like the children of the Kingdom. The minute you think they are like you they will rip you off for all they can grab. If they can, they will leave you bleeding and dying, and they will laugh about it as they walk away with the spoils. That's how things are on the devil's chessboard, so please, don't give them anything to work with.

Until the devil's chessboard comes to an end (that is very quickly approaching) we are all effected by it, even though we don't belong to it. Now, it is like the end of most any chess match, which usually involves the biggest, most powerful pieces, and the biggest power moves. Covid-19 is one of the biggest power moves we've seen on the devil's chessboard lately. Since we are all affected by it, it behooves us to take a closer look at the players, the strategy and the real objectives, so we can get out of the line of fire. Hopefully getting a better view of the board will enable us to see through deception so we can pray and act according to the truth.
