Consider this:

Many people today, even believers, look skeptically on the notion that evil spirits can be real, and not just figments of the imagination. Nevertheless, the Scriptures record many confrontations between Messiah and demonic spirits. The inspired record also tells us of similar encounters with demonic spirits had by followers of Messiah. For example, we have this encounter, recorded by Luke in the book of Acts:

It happened, as we were going to prayer, that a certain girl having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune telling. Following Paul and us, she cried out, “These men are servants of the Most High Elohim, who proclaim to us a way of salvation!” She was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Yeshua the Messiah to come out of her!” It came out that very hour.  Acts 16:16-18

If Paul was like a lot of ministers today, he probably would have seen the troublesome girl as merely some sort of heckler in the crowd, perhaps a protester or a show-off looking for attention. We see people acting up like this all the time, especially in religious and political venues, and no one pays much attention to it, other than being annoyed by such people. Few people today observe such people and perceive evil spirits. Paul was annoyed by this girl as well, but he had spiritual eyes to see what was driving her to persistently behave like a crazy person, trying to steal the attention away from Paul and onto her for days on end. He saw that she was the puppet of a demonic spirit! Finally, he cast out the spirit in Yeshua's name. In this case he did this, not for her, but for the sake of the good order of his mission. I say 'not for her' because it is usually of little use to cast demons out of people who like having them, sometimes even profiting from them like this girl did, since other demons are not prevented from inhabiting that same willing host.

The annoying girl of Acts 16 should be a wake-up call to believing skeptics. She is not frothing at the mouth, levitating above her bed. Neither is her head rotating 360 degrees, or is she throwing large burly men across the room with ease, like the Hollywood version of demon possession. While weird things like that do happen with some possessed people, such extremes are not the norm. Most cases of spirits attached to people that you see every day are seldom even recognized as being what they really are. Yes, such people are commonly all around us, and you do see them frequently, and most of the time most observers don't even know it. If a person is not fully given to the service of Yeshua Messiah then that person is under the influence of evil spirits in a symbiotic relationship - much like the girl in Acts. They get something from the demons in the atmosphere around them, and those same demons get something from them. ALL unbelievers are under this demonic influence, pretty much all of the time, as Scripture says: 

You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit which now works in the children of disobedience; among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. Ephesians 2:1-3

"The prince of the power of the air" is of course the devil who rules over this world. "The air" is the atmosphere all around the earth. The "power of the air" is the evil army of spirits ruled by satan, collectively called "the spirit which now works in the children of disobedience." This seemingly endless swarm of evil spirits inhabit the atmosphere around the earth like a thick fog clings to the surface of a marshy bog. All who live in that environment will breath in that nasty fog - and it will influence and even control them. That is the case with all of the unredeemed world. In fact, even believers who have not crucified their flesh-man in Messiah, remain vulnerable in those unredeemed areas of their lives to the powers of the evil spiritual atmosphere. You can't see this with your natural eyes any more than a fish recognizes water, but this is the spiritual atmosphere all around you  - all around everyone. Your only effective course of action against this pervasive evil influence is this:

For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before Elohim to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of Elohim, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Messiah; and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, then your obedience will be made full.  2 Corinthians 10:3-6

It's called spiritual oppression. It's a feeling of heaviness on your spirit. It is accompanied by thoughts like "I'm useless" - "the world would be better off without me" - "God hates me" - or even "I hate God" - or "I want to kill myself." These thoughts can bring on a sense of deep depression, lethargy and even, if left unchecked, lead to unspeakable acts. This very mind-warping process is behind so many of the horrid and vile acts we read of in the news!

Friend, a war is being waged against your mind and it is time for you to fight back! Learn to identify that oppressed feeling and those vile thoughts! Those thoughts are not your own. They are whispered into your psyche by the evil atmosphere, as if they were your thoughts. This is a common method of the evil atmosphere to break people down, to push them into the realm of destructive mental illness - the ultimate gaslighting. The idea is to get you to accept those thoughts as your own, to question your own sanity, and ultimately to act on those evil thoughts. You can defeat that scourge by believing and declaring the truth in Yeshua Messiah - that is, "bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Messiah." You must do this an inch at a time with "every thought" that is contrary to the Scriptural truth of everything you are meant to be in Messiah. Speak the truth of Messiah to every one of those lies, as soon as they are raised up, and knock them down! Take those lies captive and destroy them, by believing and walking in obedience to Messiah! Get aggressive about it! Recognize that those spirits are your enemies and they are trying to destroy you. Be "in readiness to avenge all disobedience, then your obedience will be made full." Yes, at the end of this process you will not only defeat the enemy, but you will stand in full obedience to Messiah, making you a powerful force for the Kingdom of Light! If all believers actually did this, can you imagine the power of Messiah that would be released against the darkness of this world!

Remember, we have these words of Messiah to depend upon in this war:

The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” He said to them, “I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you. Nevertheless, don’t rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”  Luke 10:17-20

That same authority over demonic spirits that caused such joy to the seventy has been given to all whose "names are written in heaven" through faith in Messiah. Nothing the demons do "will hurt you" in the ultimate sense, so long as you put that authority you have in the name of Yeshua Messiah to work in the war against them. The more you exercise that authority against the demons, the more powerful you will become against them, and the more effective you will be in the war. However, if you don't fight the war using that authority given you, then don't be surprised to get mauled by the demons - or even used by the demons in their war against the Assembly. They never give up, so you can't afford to either. This war will never stop until the return of Messiah, when the devil and his entire demonic machine will be summarily thrown into the abyss, where they will be shut up, and put out of the way. [Eph 6:10-20, Rev 20:1-3] 

This brings us to the subject before us tonight. We will war against one of the most pervasive and powerful demonic powers of this dark age. I'm talking about the spirit of Jezebel. Yes, many men quake at the mere mention of her name, because many men have had their lives destroyed by this wicked female spirit. She has destroyed the happiness of countless women, and ruined the lives and futures of countless children, being as she is, the destroyer of all godly authority and order. Society is reeling today from subjection to her evil reign! Yet, this is not enough for her. She will not be happy until she has completely neutered or destroyed the restoration of the Assembly of Messiah! She is at war against us. If we would prevail in raising up the Assembly, then we must face off against this fearsome female spirit in the war, and throw her down to the dogs, where she belongs! [2 Kings 9]
