The reason Bible
researchers predict events from Scripture is because the Scriptures
themselves invite timekeeping of prophetic events. This is especially true
of the book of Daniel, which lays out a number of important prophetic
timetables. Further, following the prophetic timetable for the coming of
Messiah, devout 1st century Jews were expecting Him at the right time. As
Paul wrote, "when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son,
born of a woman, born under the Torah" (Galatians 4:4). "The fullness of the
time" here refers to the prophetic timetable foretelling His coming, found
in the book of Daniel. The time of His second coming is also foretold, if
only the prophecy is "unsealed."
Here, some might object, recalling that Scripture says we will not know the
day and hour of His Return in advance. Some also repeat He is coming as "a
thief in the night." Surely, this must mean we will not know the time of His
Return in advance. (Lk 12:39+40)
Actually, it is only the
damned that will experience His return as "a thief in the night." Those in
the light will know! Here is Scripture for that:
"For you yourselves know full well that
the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they
are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them
suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not
escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would
overtake you like a thief"
1 Thessalonians 5:2-4
Since true followers of Messiah will
know, why have so many predictions been wrong? One very big reason for the
failures is the failure of Christians to perceive Israel in the prophecies.
The failed predictions generally involve prophecies that are directly stated
as applying to Israel, and the Christian apologists apply them to "the
Church" instead. Interestingly, Sir Isaac Newton, a great scientist and an
even greater Bible researcher, explained why and how the prophecies of
Daniel were sealed up. He understood and said that those time prophecies of
the Return could only be understood AFTER Israel returns to the Land. Even
though such an event seemed impossible in Newton' s day, he knew from
Scripture that Israel must return to the Land - an event reserved by YHWH
for the 20th century, after Newton was long dead. Contrary to ignorant
statements by some, that Newton predicted a date of the Return, this
speculation by Newton was never intended to be a prediction. It was just an
off-the-cuff wild guess in his own private notes. Even so, his guess was in
the 21st century.
When it comes to the reasons the time
prophecies of Daniel could not be accurately known, Newton was right. Israel
is the key to understanding the prophecies and the time. Now, the prophecies
concerning Israel are unfolding according to the Scriptural timeframe, so
now we can know the time.
While people make mistakes, the Scripture is
flawless. As Messiah said: "the Scripture cannot be broken" (Jn 10:35). Just
as surely as Messiah came the first time, and everything prophesied for His
first coming occurred, so also with the final generation. The process of
Israel returning to the Land is now well along. The final generation is
here, we are deep into it, and we are fast ticking off more and more
prophecies being fulfilled. In fact, we are now moving rapidly toward the
Great Tribulation, near the close of this decade. Only seven years after
that, according to the Biblical timetable, Messiah will return to bring His
Kingdom to the Earth.
While many fear the Great Tribulation, it is
coming and you need to be ready. What will it look like when it comes in?
