From Eliyahu
Consider this:
What if there was a Song written long in
advance of the prophets of Israel that foretells in advance the entire
prophetic story of the Creator's dealings with that nation - from the
beginning to the end of the world? What if that amazing Song finds its final
fulfillment with the unfolding of events prophesied in the Book of
Revelation?
What if, by now, nearly all of the Song has
been fulfilled. All of it, that is, except for a tiny bit reserved for the
Last Days. Namely, the dramatic climax of the Song, the part that literally
ties together the work of God from the beginning, ages ago, to its
magnificent conclusion in modern times that will literally re-order the
universe!
Do you know the Song? Do you recognize quotes
from the Song as they appear in the New Testament (NT)? Do you understand
how those references to the Song affect the meaning of the NT passages where
they appear? Do you think it would be a good idea to learn what the Song
says, and what it means? I'm talking about the amazing Song of Moses, first
written and sung nearly 4 millennia ago!
Moses is not generally known as a poet or song
writer. When people think of Moses perhaps the story of a baby boy in a
basket, set upon the waters of the Nile and rescued by an Egyptian princess
comes to mind. Perhaps Moses' meeting with the God of Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob, the Great I AM, at the Burning Bush, is your first thought. Certainly
Moses leading his people in the Exodus from Egypt, revealing the mighty
wonders and works of YHWH, thrills believers even after thousands of years.
The great conclusion of that Exodus, that is, the unparalleled demonstration
of Divine power by the parting of the Red Sea to swallow up the armies of
Pharaoh is often thought of as the signature moment for Moses ... and there
is so much more. What is not well known is that Moses included poetry and
song writing among the wide range of works of faith manifested by that man
of God!

For example were you
aware that there is a poem of Moses included among the Psalms? Here it is:
A prayer of Moses
the man of God:
Adonai, you have
been our dwelling place in every generation.
Before the
mountains were born,
before you had
formed the earth and the world,
from eternity past
to eternity future you are God.
You bring frail
mortals to the point of being crushed,
then say, "People,
repent!"
For from your
viewpoint a thousand years are
merely like
yesterday or a night watch.
When you sweep
them away, they become like sleep;
by morning they
are like growing grass,
growing and
flowering in the morning,
but by evening cut
down and dried up.
For we are
destroyed by your anger,
overwhelmed by
your wrath.
You have placed
our faults before you,
our secret sins in
the full light of your presence.
All our days ebb
away under your wrath; our years die away like a sigh.
The span of our
life is seventy years, or if we are strong, eighty;
yet at best it is
toil and sorrow, over in a moment, and then we are gone.
Who grasps the
power of your anger and wrath
to the degree that
the fear due you should inspire?
So teach us to
count our days, so that we will become wise.
Return, Adonai!
How long must it go on? Take pity on your servants!
Fill us at
daybreak with your love,
so that we can
sing for joy as long as we live.
Let our joy last
as long as the time you made us suffer,
for as many years
as we experienced trouble.
Show your deeds to
your servants and your glory to their children.
May the favor of
Adonai our God be on us,
prosper for us all
the work that we do
- yes, prosper the
work that we do.
Psalms 90:1-17 CJB
I wanted to share this
deeply felt poem/prayer of Moses with you because it reveals Moses' great
reverence of YHWH, while also expressing the deepest longing of his heart -
not only for himself but for all of YHWH's people. Moses is not just a
legendary, larger than life figure, as if only from the pages of a book.
Rather, he is a real mortal man like you or I, with the same need for the
forgiveness and love of God that we so desperately need as well. As you
contemplate this poem of Moses, it may reveal to you the heart of this man.
It might help you to know him. Then, as you consider the Song of Moses with
us tonight, it will be an even greater experience for you, unlocking new
levels of faith in your life, marking out for you ever more clearly, the Way
Everlasting.
The Song of Moses is
profoundly significant, and it is the topic of our Tsiyon meeting tonight
at Tsiyon.Net
at 8 PM, CST. Please join us and learn The Song.
Blessings and good health to you,
Eliyahu
