Our Grand Creator is the Lord of time. He has structured each of the ages of mankind to move the world toward His end goal. He has set a time for this age to come to an end so that a new and better age, the Kingdom Age, may begin.

 

Is the end of this world now imminent? A recent survey indicates that about 40% of Americans think so. The most interesting demographic among this group are the billionaires who are depending on luxury bunkers to see them through the end.

 

A Vice article entitled Billionaires Are Building Luxury Bunkers to Escape Doomsday says this: 

Silicon Valley’s wealthy elite are viewing doomsday as a serious threat, building bunkers in preparation for the potential destruction of all mankind .. media theorist Douglas Rushkoff was invited to speak to tech executives at an exclusive resort. The men cited potential disasters caused by electromagnetic pulses, economic downturn, disease, or war that might “necessitate them leaving their Silicon Valley ranches and retreating to these fortified bunkers in the middle of nowhere.”

Another article gives more details:

Numerous billionaires including Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson, and Larry Page have bought large chunks of land on islands. What’s even more surprising is that many such properties have underground tunnels leading to bunker-like structures. For instance, Zuckerberg is building a $100 million bunker beneath his under-construction Ko’olau Ranch property on the Hawaiian island Kauai. In an interview, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman also revealed that nearly half of his billionaire friends from Silicon Valley either have some secret hideaways or are working on one.

..Hawaii isn’t the only place that has billionaire-owned secret underground shelters. Hamilton, Hanmer Springs, and Wanaka in New Zealand are also among some of the popular bunker hotspots of the ultra-rich. “Saying you’re ”buying a house in New Zealand” is kind of a ”wink, wink, say no more,” Hoffman told The Daily Mail. https://interestingengineering[dot]com/culture/billionaires-building-bunkers

I doubt that the billionaires building luxury survival bunkers are doing so because of Bible prophecy. Its much more likely that they see real existential threats mounting up in the world which they are hedging their bets against. If they read the Bible they would know a bunker won't help them much when the 'Day of His wrath' arrives. The Scripture says that Day will be ushered in with these events:

"..every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great Day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"  Revelation 6:14-17

It is not only the wealthy and the luminaries of this world who are even now preparing ahead for the coming end of this world. A sizable number of the so-called 'little people' are also prepping for doomsday. While luxury bunkers are beyond their means, many of them are quite inventive in their preparations. They wonder: "when will that Day come?  Will it come at all"?  

It is certain that the 'Day of His wrath' will come exactly on time, the very time that the Lord of Time has scheduled in advance from the founding of the world. Can we know that time in advance? A common answer to this question by many people goes something like this: 'Jesus said no one knows - not even Him' - so we can't know.' Then they might even quote the verse; "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only." Matthew 24:36

 

There can be no doubt that even Messiah did not know the exact day and hour at the time He spoke those words. Surely though, He will know in advance of His actual coming, so that He can be where He needs to be on that Day.

 

Likewise, those faithful who are going through the tribulation of the final days will know with certainty the year in which it will end, when they see the 'antichrist' in the temple declaring that he is god. The prophetic word makes that very clear by saying there will be 42 months, i.e. 31/2 years, until the end from that point. Is that knowledge of the "day and hour"? No, but it will definitely be the right year, and season, and will be very close to the exact day. (Rev 11:2, 12:6,14, 13:5, Dan 7:25, 2Thess 2:1-17)

 

After writing the paragraph above it occurred to me to see what the commentaries say about this. On looking up Matthew 24:36 I was a bit surprised to find this statement in the Believers Bible Commentary:

While those living prior to Christ's return will not know its day or hour, it seems that those familiar with the prophecy may be able to know the year. They will know, for instance, that it will be approximately three and one-half years after the idol image is set up in the temple (Dan_9:27; see also Dan_7:25; Dan_12:7, Dan_12:11; Rev_11:2-3; Rev_12:14; Rev_13:5).

Thus, we see from Scripture that the prophetic timing will be known by faithful believers at least 31/2 years before the end. Could there be other prophetic events, even earlier, that launch a somewhat longer advance knowledge of the time of the end? Actually, the answer to that question is a definite 'yes'! However, not all will know.  "Only the wise will understand". (Dan 12:3, 10)

 

But, what about Messiah saying that Day will come as a thief in the night? Doesn't that mean we will not know ahead of time? (Matt 24:43, Lk 12:39)

 

The apostle Paul explains this:

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. (1 Thessalonians 5:1-4)

Paul thus makes it clear that Messiah's coming will be like a thief in the night for this dark, unbelieving world. The children of light, however, will surely know in advance of His coming. Messiah is no thief to them!

 

The fact is, our Father in Heaven is the Lord of Time, and knows the end from the beginning. He is the keeper of secrets, that He has saved up to be revealed to His End-Time Remnant.
