Mr Mary?

From Eliyahu

In today's fast paced world, many people feel underrated and often overlooked. Modern technology only seems to exacerbate that feeling. Social media sites like YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, X, and others all seem to scream that the more attention you get the more valuable you and your content are – which also seems to mean the opposite is true. If you are not going ‘viral’ you must be a nobody – at least, that’s what a lot of people seem to think. What is wrong with that picture?

Let’s imagine we could activate the Past Pilot 64 and go back in time, say, fifty years before the Great Flood. Let’s just imagine that the angels that sinned had given the world modern technology and we could logon to a computer of the day to look around by means of an antediluvian video platform, say, NephLicks.

We would immediately see the top video uploads, with each having millions of ‘views’ with abundant ‘subscribers’ and ‘likes.’ You might notice that Jubal was more popular than anyone, since he put out loads of original music using the harp and pipe. He virtually invented the music of the day. DIY videos were also hugely popular, especially videos on weapons-making by metal workers, with Tubal Cain at the top of the list. Of course the ladies loved makeup and fashion, which was all the rage. And much more.

Wait a minute though. You are from the future, so you know how all of this will turn out. You know that, by far, the most important man then on earth was Noah. Surely Noah would be the most popular influencer on NephLicks, so you look up the Noah channel. That channel is not easy to find, but after some persistence you finally get there. You see many videos there, all with a subject line that reads: Repent! As you look at the display of Noah's videos you notice all of them have only 8 views, 8 subscribers and 8 likes. Wow, what a loser. That is, a loser in the eyes of that world – but a BIG winner in the eyes of the Lord.

OK - we are back from our little excursion into the past. What did it teach us? Something we already know but easily forget sometimes. The values of the world are completely different than the values of the Creator. If you are a child of His Kingdom you are probably insignificant, if not hated, in the eyes of the world. Messiah explained this, saying in prayer to the Father:

"I have given them your word. The world hates them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world even as I am not of the world."  John 17:14-16

If you are His child you are not of this world, any more than Noah was of the antediluvian world. If you are underrated by the world rejoice and praise His Name, because you are known by your name in the Kingdom of Heaven!

underrated-untilit was too late!

Noah is not the only Bible character who was underrated in his own time. Bible Greats like Abraham, Moses, David, Sarah, Esther and Mary, to name a few, lived with that same situation in all or parts of their lives. Others, although found in Scripture, remain underrated, even by believers today. For example, do Shiphrah and Puah rank high on your list of Bible heroes? Many of us can't even bring them to mind without looking them up. They were midwives during the time that Israel was in bondage to Egypt. Here is their amazing story:

"The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah, and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool; if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” But the midwives feared Elohim, and didn’t do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive. The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, and have saved the boys alive?” The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women aren’t like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous, and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” Elohim dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty. It happened, because the midwives feared Elohim, that he gave them families." Exodus 1:15-21

Aren't these two Israelite midwives amazing examples of women who faithfully chose to do the right thing under tremendous pressure? To defy a direct command of the Pharaoh called for bravery far beyond the ordinary, since he could have them killed without a word. These proved to be warrior women defending the new born baby boys of Israel by sparing their lives - AND - giving the Pharaoh a strategic answer meant to defuse the Pharaohs' evil command! Wouldn't you agree that these two amazing ladies are highly underrated?

There are many other amazing examples of underrated servants of YHWH to be found in Scripture. Tonight I am bringing you the story of one of them, namely, the man who some people think of as "Mr. Mary" - that is, Joseph son of Jacob. Joseph was the husband of Mary (Miriam) but was also much more than that. He was, among other things, an amazing example of the best sort of man that the House of David ever produced. I'm sure when you consider Joseph's story in detail you will see him in a whole new light, and you will understand better than ever why the household of Joseph was the very best place that the baby Savior could possibly grow up into a man. The Father literally entrusted the earthly life of His only begotten Son into the hands of this man!

What does that tell you about the status of Joseph in the eyes of the Almighty?

Our theme for tonight will be: Mr. Mary? Join me and my other panelists for this discussion tonight, August 11, 2024, at Tsiyon.Net at 8 PM, Central. You are invited to comment and ask questions in real time as we stream. We will be sharing a lot more about Messiah's underrated family, and this is a great place to get to know who they really were.
