last days water wars

From Eliyahu

Peace. We all say we want peace and yet much of the world remains at war. Why is that?  I'm sure you are well aware that the world has been changing dramatically lately, especially regarding the war in Europe. This war is especially dangerous, bringing the world closer to atomic annihilation than ever before. That is, according to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Doomsday Clock published this year on January 29, 2025 (founded by Albert Einstein and other scientists in 1947). That clock places the odds of Atomic Doomsday this year at a mere 89 seconds to midnight - closer than any previous year.

Despite the danger of WWIII, and the loss of thousands of young people coming home from the battlefield in body bags each week, many of the countries in Europe are bullish on continuing the war, with more and more involvement by more NATO countries than ever. They push the narrative that Putin's Russia must be stopped in Ukraine or else Russia will attempt to take all of Europe!

How do they know this? Certainly not by discussing it with Putin, because most won't talk with him - they just want to cheer on the fighting to an imagined victory against Russia. I say 'imagined' because three years of war has not even achieved a stalemate for Ukraine, and the mere thought of a victory against Russia is insanity. Russia, which inherited the Soviet Union’s nuclear weapons, has the world’s biggest store of nuclear warheads. Putin controls about 5,580 nuclear warheads, according to the Federation of American Scientists (FAS). Such numbers mean Moscow could destroy the entire world many times over. Should the countries of NATO really be trying to back Russia into a corner, like a pack of barking hound dogs?

Then there is the matter of cost. Total defense spending by the 31 NATO countries excluding the United States, in 2024 , adds up to an approximate total of $495 billion for all 31 nations. That sounds like a lot of money, and it is, but compare that to USA defense spending for the same period. How much is that for the 1 nation of the USA? $860 Billion! That's right, the 31 other nations of NATO put together are only paying about half of what the USA is spending on defense!

What does that mean for the warmongers who want to see continual war? It means that without the USA paying an unsustainable over-sized share of the bill, NATO can't afford to keep the war going. Many of those people are upset with the USA for not wanting to keep sending their money to Europe to fund a war that has little if any relevance for the average American. But can America afford to keep spending like this on a war with no end in sight? America is trillions of dollars in debt right now, and has a lot of other priorities that need attention and funds. It really should not be surprising to anyone that this President of the United States is behaving like a grown-up in this situation. He obviously sees the hard facts and wants to do the only sane thing - negotiate an end to the war.

Does that make Putin a nice guy now? Actually, that's irrelevant. Putin's character is far overshadowed by the necessity of peace, and you can't get peace without negotiating with the parties involved, whether you like them or not. Peace negotiations must be all about the practical considerations, as Yeshua said:

"Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace." (Luke 14:31-32)

As with everything else, truth (practical reality) matters. People don't always like the truth. If your doctor tells you that there is cancer on your scan you won't like it, even if it is the objective truth. There is a whole host of potential truth nobody likes when any of those things actually happen to themselves or someone they love. When this sort of truth makes an unwanted visit the faster you deal with it in reality the better it will turn out for you. Your emotions may slow you down or even completely prevent you from dealing with the truth. Denial is not uncommon. This has happened with the war in Europe. It may not be fair and it will not come to a satisfactory end in accord with the feelings of many Europeans. That will be troubling emotionally, but Yeshua's parable above suggests that is no reason not to seek an end to the war to stop the unnecessary slaughter.

In case you are wondering why I am explaining about the war in Europe, its because this is probably the most significant war we've seen in Europe in a long time, and it may be confusing to see so much controversy over it now. My hope is that my observations will help to bring some clarity to the underlying issues involved in the changes we are seeing.

Now I want to tell you about another war, a war that has not happened yet. It is prophesied in Isaiah 11 and I believe it will become reality within the next few years. It is a war involving water.

I was surprised years ago when I first became aware of water wars. Having grown up in Maine, a land of many lakes, rivers and streams, it never occurred to me that people would fight over water, or would even use water as a weapon against others. Yet, in my travels I found there are many places very different than the water-rich state of Maine. Out west in the USA we have some very dry states, some of them with deserts. Also, poor water management can lead to water shortages.  This often leads to tensions over water.

Modern population growth and urbanization can be at the root of water conflict. As the global population expands, the demand for freshwater skyrockets. Urbanization exacerbates this issue, with cities requiring vast amounts of water for domestic use, sanitation, and industrial activities. The finite nature of freshwater resources means that increased consumption often leads to shortages, sparking competition and conflict.

For example, California’s complex water management system has led to numerous disputes between agricultural interests, urban areas, and environmental groups. Prolonged droughts and over-allocation of water rights have exacerbated the situation. Consider the battle over water in the Owens Valley, often referred to as the "California Water Wars," which began in the early 20th century when Los Angeles diverted water from the valley, leaving local farmers and ranchers without adequate water supplies. This conflict has had lasting impacts on the region's ecology and communities.

Agricultural demands are a big factor when it comes to water use. Agriculture is the largest consumer of freshwater globally, accounting for approximately 70% of all freshwater withdrawals. Efficient water management in agriculture is crucial, but in many parts of the world, outdated irrigation techniques and water-intensive crops exacerbate the problem. Farmers, often already operating on thin margins, may find themselves in fierce competition for limited water, leading to disputes and, in some cases, violence.

One example of this is the Aral Sea Crisis. The Aral Sea, once one of the world's largest inland bodies of water, has shrunk dramatically due to the diversion of its inflowing rivers for agricultural irrigation. This environmental disaster has led to economic and social turmoil in the surrounding regions of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The reduction of water has devastated local fisheries, impacted agriculture, and caused severe public health issues due to the exposure of toxic sediments from the dried-up lakebed. The Aral Sea crisis has led to widespread conflict and suffering.

Yet another example is the India-Pakistan Water Dispute. The Indus River system is vital for both India and Pakistan, providing water for millions of people and vast agricultural lands. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, brokered by the World Bank, has managed to prevent major conflicts over water for decades. However, political tensions and growing demands for water have strained the agreement in recent years. Both countries have accused each other of violating the treaty, leading to heightened geopolitical tensions that risk erupting into open conflict.

As these examples show, water wars are proliferating in our modern world, and threaten the peace in many areas. In Isaiah 11 we learn about such an event that will occur in Egypt with profound ramifications. This prophecy will be fulfilled in the next few years.
