As I write I am jubilant that the remaining hostages in captivity to the brutal Hamas terrorists have been released to reunite with their families, and a ceasefire is in effect. Yesterday, October 13, 2025, a historic peace deal was signed in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, aimed at ending the two-year war between Israel and Hamas. President Donald Trump (United States), President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi (Egypt), President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (Turkey), Officials from Qatar, and representatives from Jordan, UAE, France, Germany, UK, and the Palestinian Authority all signed on with much broader steps now in view to bring in a time of relative peace for that entire region. The rest from conflict and violence is a blessing, and a long time in coming.

 

In my life, I am encouraged by the timing of these events. I’m calling this newsletter “A Josiah Moment in the Middle East.” This is due to the story of the events of Jeremiah's ministry, starting with the reign of Josiah, that I'm sharing with you tonight.

 

Here at Tsiyon we are encouraged by this: As I’ve been preparing this week’s special program I can’t help but see the parallel between events of Jeremiah’s ministry, starting with the reforms of Josiah, and the optimism that inspired, with the optimism that is surrounding current peace efforts in the Middle East. By the way, my presentation is entitled: “Last Great Chance” – which may give you a clue at what I’m thinking.

 

The timing of this message with the unfolding of the push toward peace in the Middle East is from above. Let me break that down for you. In the time of King Josiah, Judah experienced a remarkable season of reform, renewed covenant faithfulness, and national peace. Some likely felt those days might go on forever. But the prophet Jeremiah warned that beneath the surface, unresolved divisions, injustice, and idolatry remained.

 

After Josiah’s reign, those hidden fractures began to break wide open. Over less than a generation, Judah plunged into decline and ultimately suffered the destruction of Jerusalem and exile in 587 BC. The peace of Josiah’s reign turned out to have been a window of opportunity for the wise to spiritually prepare themselves, before those awful events fell upon the entire nation.

 

For a while now I have pointed out that a time of peace must come in the Middle East to make way for the Return of the Remnant of all the Tribes of Israel to the Land, as foretold in the books of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, and elsewhere. Today, I see that peace emerging in the Middle East demonstrated in a tangible way. In fact, I see release of the captives we have just witnessed during this Sukkot as a sign of the coming release of the captives of the Tribes of Israel from all the world, to return to our historic homeland.

 

A peace framework is now underway. To me, it feels like a new Josiah Minute. As Jeremiah would remind us, outward peace does not guarantee lasting stability. Below is a reflection on the promise, the risks, and the vigilance we must maintain.

 

Let’s review the recent facts on the world stage. President Trump has reentered the diplomatic spotlight in the Middle East. On September 29, 2025, he unveiled a 20‑point Gaza peace plan calling for ceasefire, disarmament of Hamas, transitional governance in Gaza, prisoner exchanges, and international oversight of reconstruction.

 

On October 9, 2025, Israel and Hamas signed the first phase of that agreement in Sharm el‑Sheikh, committing to:

- cessation of hostilities (which now seems to have happened)
- withdrawal of Israeli forces (which has happened)
- release of hostages (which has already partially happened)

As noted above, the ambition is to build from this a broader regional peace. Trump’s vision includes expanding normalization under the Abraham Accords to additional states such as Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and perhaps even countries like Lebanon, Syria, and others. His February 2025 proposal even contemplated U.S. administrative oversight during reconstruction of Gaza, along with voluntary relocation of Palestinians - controversial ideas that highlight the magnitude of his attempt.

 

Whatever form this eventual deal takes, it will lead to a new architecture of regional treaties, security guarantees, economic integration, and diplomatic ties. For many, this looks like a new era of peace in the Middle East. Indeed, President Trump has called it “eternal” peace.

 

This goes far beyond just a trivial ceasefire. Several factors give this a real chance:

- Regional buy-in and normalization momentum. Arab states have gotten behind this and put signatures to paper. There is real momentum toward normalization with Israel.

 

- Security architecture verification. Disarmament, demilitarized zones, third‑party monitors, and international trusteeship all lend support.

 

- Economic incentives. Reconstruction funds, trade, infrastructure development, and regional cooperation offer tangible benefits to those who comply. An economic boom could in fact emerge from this.

 

- Symbolic steps. Hostage exchanges, prisoner releases, humanitarian aid - these generate goodwill and build trust if they succeed. There is momentum to get on board.

 

But despite these strengths, the framework faces severe pain points that will continue to churn under the surface.

Final Status Issues - Questions of Jerusalem, borders, sovereignty, and rights cannot be postponed forever. These are core issues that evoke deep identity and religious conflict.

 

Spoilers & Militias - Groups like Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and Iran’s proxy networks may reject central control and act to undermine the deal. "Can the leopard change his spots?" (Jeremiah 13:23)

 

Intra‑Palestinian Divisions - The split between Gaza and West Bank governance, and factions within Fatah, Hamas, and local leadership, make for instability.

 

Regional Divergent Interests - States such as Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, and others have overlapping but not identical goals, fueling division. "Ishmael ..will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him.." (Genesis 16:11-12)

 

Trust & Enforcement Problems - Who will enforce disarmament, adjudicate claims, and punish violations? Can third‑party guarantors even stay neutral and effective?

 

External Actors - Turkey, Iran, Russia, and shifting U.S. influence can act as spoilers if they feel marginalized or threatened.

 

Complacency & Memory Loss - Over time, populations may forget the cost of war, demand shortcuts, or resist unpopular enforcement measures - just as Judah forgot warnings in Josiah’s time.

Jeremiah was a prophet called during the reforms of Josiah. He saw that outward renewal, however promising, did not erase the intransigence in the social fabric of Judah. He warned that silence, complacency, or superficial peace would not prevent collapse and disaster. When Josiah’s reign ended and successors came, the latent rot manifested in rebellion, foreign domination, and eventual exile. The window of opportunity passed and the rapid downward spiral began.

 

In today’s world, the “peace agreement era” may feel like a triumph - and it may rightly be welcomed. But it is only a window of opportunity that will be followed by crisis, not only in the Middle East. The prophetic Word tells us the crisis will come upon the entire world.

 

This Josiah Moment marks a historic turning point. How shall we receive it? Yeshua said: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9-10).

 

Welcome peace, support appropriate reconciliation, and engage in activities that make for peace. Yet do not be fooled. Keep a prophetic mindset. Remember that only Messiah can bring eternal peace – and He will, at His Return. The peace that comes through political means is not an endpoint - it is a season.

 

The full story does not end at signatures on agreements; it will end when Messiah returns and sets up His Kingdom. Before that happens the world must face the greatest crisis of all history.

 

Yeshua says this is ahead:

“Then there will be great oppression, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever will be. Unless those days are shortened, no flesh will be saved. But for the sake of the chosen ones, those days will be shortened.” (Matthew 24:21-22)

There will be the world's peace, but after a short while the peace will give way to “great oppression” never even possible before now. Use your Josiah Moment wisely.

 

For tonight I was led to plan ahead to share something that has now worked out with amazing timing, to parallel developments now unfolding on the world stage. However, some might find the topic a bit unusual for our Last Great Day of Sukkot. After all, this involved the descent of the nation of YHWH into Exile. Not to worry, this presentation ends on the most uplifting possible note! This has a lot to offer, and I know you will get a lot from it.
