Important Website Update: Bad actors are now attacking and taking down websites using AI. This happened to our Tsiyon.Net website recently. In dealing with this we learned that for every human that logs into our site there are 5000 bots attempting to break in. I know that sounds crazy, but this is a real statistic of what overwhelmed our site. This requires us to rebuild our website, hardening it to a security level capable of withstanding these attacks. Of course, we are working on that until we have the Fort Knox of websites, but it may take a little longer than any of us would like. At this point we have scrubbed the website of any suspicious code and rebuilt a secure core. Right now the core site is secure, but we have not yet added back the content. However, we are  ready to start streaming our meetings from Tsiyon.Net and we will be doing so according to our regular weekly schedule, starting tonight. Now we need the help of our members to secure the site. Please go to Tsiyon.Net and update your password. Thank you.

The Alien Face Introducing the UFO Age

I was going to go to a discussion of Jack Parsons next in this series, but as I was starting to get into that I realized I had some earlier fish to fry.. Now we come to a strange and puzzling figure in the UFO-occult connection.

His name is Lam. Or more carefully stated: Lam is the name attached to a strange drawing produced by Aleister Crowley, the famous British occultist and founder of the Thelemic system of ceremonial magic.

Crowley’s Lam image was published in 1919 as the frontispiece to his commentary on The Voice of the Silence. Crowley’s main claimed entity/revealer in Thelema was Aiwass.  Lam is another entity contacted by Crowley, associated with Crowley’s 1918 New York occult period and his Amalantrah Working ritual.

The image is disturbing. It shows a bald, large-headed, narrow-faced, nonhuman-looking figure. Modern viewers often notice that it resembles the later image of the “grey alien” — the large head, the narrow chin, the small mouth, the strange nonhuman presence.

That resemblance has led some people to think Crowley contacted extraterrestrials before the modern UFO age. Others say Lam was a portal-being, an interdimensional entity, or an early occult appearance of the same beings later called aliens.

We cannot claim that Crowley “summoned grey aliens” as a proven fact. Much of the later UFO interpretation came through later occult writers, especially Kenneth Grant and those influenced by him. However, that is not nothing. Kenneth Grant’s affiliation with Aleister Crowley was both personal and institutional, rooted in his role as Crowley’s personal secretary and later as a leading figure in the Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.). The point is, Grant very well could have been passing on what he received from Crowley.

At any rate, the importance of Lam is this: before the modern flying-saucer era, before the grey alien became a popular cultural image, occult circles were already dealing with strange nonhuman figures, alleged intelligences, ritual contact, and the idea of communication with beings beyond ordinary humanity.

That is exactly the pattern we are tracing. The “alien face” may not have entered the modern world only through science fiction. It also appears at the doorway of occult contact.

Although now long dead, Aleister Crowley remains one of the most influential occult figures of the modern age. He was not merely a curiosity. His writings, rituals, and occult system influenced later ceremonial magic, esoteric groups, popular culture, and figures connected to the early space age, including Jack Parsons, whom we will discuss before long. Crowley’s system, known as Thelema, was built around the famous maxim: “Do what thou wilt.”

From a biblical perspective, that phrase alone should alarm us. It is the opposite of Messiah’s own submission to the Father: “Not my will, but yours, be done.”

Crowley claimed contact with nonhuman intelligences, most famously Aiwass, whom he said dictated The Book of the Law in 1904.  In his writings Crowley fondly calls Aiwass his "Guardian Angel" and "The Devil" and "Lucifer"  - leaving no doubt about the source of Crowley's occult connections. Whether one sees this as real or as occult imagination, demonic influence, psychological experience, or deliberate deception, the pattern is unmistakable: a man receives a message from an unseen intelligence and treats it as new revelation.

The UFO phenomenon often leads people to ask, “What if nonhuman intelligences are communicating with mankind?” Crowley’s occult world had already been asking that question long before “flying saucers” became a household phrase. The language was different. The imagery was different. The alleged beings were not described in modern space-age terms. But the spiritual structure was already there: Contact, Message, Revelation, Hidden knowledge, A new path for mankind.

The Lam Image

Around 1918 or 1919, Crowley produced the strange drawing now associated with Lam. The image appeared in connection with Crowley’s occult writings of that period and was later treated by others as deeply significant.

The drawing itself is simple but memorable. The figure is bald. The head is large. The face is narrow. The expression is difficult to read. It does not look like an ordinary human portrait. To modern eyes, it is hard not to notice the resemblance to later “grey alien” imagery. Not exactly the same, but close enough for some people to wonder if it was a prototype of the more evolved alien face so familiar today.

A visual resemblance is not absolute proof. We cannot rightly say, “This proves Crowley met aliens.” But we can say Lam stands at the intersection of occult contact, nonhuman imagery, and later UFO interpretation. In this series, we are not trying to prove every legend. We are unveiling patterns. Lam belongs in the pattern.

The Amalantrah Connection

Lam is often discussed in connection with Crowley’s occult workings in New York around 1918, especially the Amalantrah Working. The primary objective of the Amalantrah Working was to open a dimensional portal to contact non-human intelligences, a goal achieved through automatic writing, trance states, and the use of substances like opium and hashish. Those workings thus involved occult visionary and ritual activity, and they belong to the same occult atmosphere in which Crowley claimed contact with intelligences beyond ordinary human life.

Crowley did not give us a simple statement saying, “Lam is an alien from another planet.” But Lam appears in the orbit of Crowley’s occult contact practices.

Lam and ET

The biblical problem is not solved by changing the label from conjured entity to space alien. If a person seeks contact with unseen intelligences through occult ritual, they have already gone too far. Whether the entity is later called a spirit, a master, an angel, an extraterrestrial, or an interdimensional being, Scripture has already warned us against seeking hidden knowledge through forbidden contact.

YHWH said:

“There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to YHWH.”                             - Deuteronomy 18:10–12

The modern world may call it consciousness work. Occultists may call it ritual magic. UFO groups may call it contact. But the biblical category remains: mankind is not to seek knowledge, power, or revelation through contact with forbidden entities.

Kenneth Grant and the Later UFO Interpretation

As I mentioned, the Lam story became more important to the UFO discussion through Kenneth Grant, a later occult writer and former associate of Crowley. Grant developed what became known as the Typhonian current, a stream of occult thought that blended Crowley’s Thelema with darker esoteric material, Lovecraftian imagery, nonhuman intelligences, gateways, and later UFO themes.

For Grant and those influenced by him, Lam was more than a strange drawing. Lam became a focus for occult meditation, contact, and speculation about nonhuman intelligence. In this interpretation, Lam was sometimes treated as a doorway, a gateway, or a link to forces beyond ordinary human consciousness. This tracks well with his name. Lam is said to be Tibetan for “path” or “way” – seen to be a pathway to an unknown world. Some described him in terms that sound less like old-fashioned spiritism and frame it more like interdimensional or extraterrestrial contact.

This is where the UFO connection becomes more compelling. Crowley produced the image. Grant promoted its larger occult-UFO meaning. Later writers saw in Lam a bridge between ritual magic and the alien mythology of the 20th century. The occultists themselves found it natural to connect ceremonial magic with nonhuman intelligences and later UFO imagery. That is highly significant.

The Grey Alien Resemblance

The “grey alien” is now one of the most recognizable images in modern culture: large head, thin body, large eyes, small mouth, strange nonhuman presence. Lam is not identical to that image. But the resemblance is obvious enough that many people have noticed it. What do we make of that?

One possibility is coincidence. Crowley drew a strange occult figure, and later people saw in it what they had been trained by UFO culture to recognize.

Another possibility is that later alien imagery was influenced, directly or indirectly, by occult art, esoteric imagination, and visionary material already circulating before the modern UFO era.

Another possibility, from a biblical worldview, is that the same deceptive spiritual powers that operated through occult contact later appeared under the mask of extraterrestrial contact.

Personally, I don’t believe in coincidences, so for me I can rule that out. Influence from occult and UFO culture is somewhat likely, especially where picking up on a real vibe resonating with a sympathetic audience. That points to the third option – deceptive spiritual powers really at work.

Judge for yourself, but in any event, we can recognize the pattern.

The old occult world had nonhuman intelligences. The modern UFO world has nonhuman intelligences.

The old occult world had channeled messages. The modern UFO world has contact messages.

The old occult world had hidden masters and secret wisdom. The modern UFO world has advanced beings and disclosure.

The old occult world had strange faces from visionary contact. The modern UFO world has the alien face.

The mask changed. The spirit behind forbidden contact has not changed at all.

Significance of Lam

Many people think the alien story emerged naturally from the space age. Rockets were built. Satellites went up. Men dreamed of visiting other worlds. Science fiction imagined alien civilizations. Therefore, the public began to imagine beings from the stars.

That is partly true. But it is far from the whole story.

Lam matters to this discussion because he challenges the common assumption that the alien image belongs only to science, astronomy, or space travel. The alien image has roots in occult contact, ritual magic, channeled communication, altered consciousness, and the search for hidden wisdom.

Lam demonstrates that before the flying-saucer age, occultists were already dealing with images and alleged intelligences that later fit comfortably into UFO mythology. Lam provided the ‘pathway’ for the later ‘aliens’ of the UFO era.

The “alien” is now sold as a scientific idea. It is, in reality, the old spirit guide presented in a new persona. It is the angel of light wearing a space-age mask.

Intruding Into Unseen Things

Paul warns believers against false spirituality that intrudes into unseen things:

“Let no one rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind.” — Colossians 2:18

That warning is deeply relevant. The occult world is always tempted to intrude into unseen things. It seeks hidden beings, hidden realms, hidden masters, hidden wisdom, and hidden power. It is not content with the revelation YHWH has given. It wants to go beyond.

Modern UFO spirituality often does the same thing. It asks people to open themselves to contact. It invites them to receive messages from nonhuman intelligences. It tells them higher beings are guiding mankind. It suggests that those beings know our origins, our destiny, and our future.

That is not merely curiosity. That is spiritual danger. A Bible believer does not need to know every secret of the unseen world. We need to know YHWH, His Word, and His Messiah. We need to walk in obedience and discernment. And we need to remember, there are some things man is forbidden to seek.

The Angel of Light

Paul also wrote:

“And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light.”            — 2 Corinthians 11:14

This is one of the great warnings of Scripture. Deception does not always look ugly. Sometimes it appears as light. Sometimes it speaks of knowledge. Sometimes it offers wisdom. Sometimes it claims to bring mankind into a higher age.

The modern world does not usually expect demons. It expects advanced beings. It expects cosmic intelligence. It expects higher consciousness. It expects disclosure. It expects salvation through knowledge. That expectation makes the world vulnerable.

If a deceptive spirit wanted to be received by modern man, would it come wearing medieval horns and a pitchfork? Or would it come as a higher intelligence from beyond earth, offering enlightenment, unity, and a new future? The answer should be obvious to those who know the true God. The most effective deception is the one this age has been groomed to receive. Disclosure is the last card needed to cement that deception upon the whole world.
