NASA, Nazis and the Occult
In the last newsletter, we looked at Jack Parsons, a real pioneer of American rocketry who was also deeply involved in the Aleister Crowley occult system of Thelema and ritual magic. Parsons showed us one of the clearest documented overlaps between early rocketry and the occult imagination, and an occult transition into the UFO Era. Now we widen the lens.

The modern UFO mythos did not arise in a world that was merely looking at lights in the sky. It arose in a world of rockets, atomic power, secret weapons, Cold War fear, captured German scientists, occult revival, science fiction, pagan symbolism, and mankinds dream of reaching the heavens.

That is why we must ask a deeper question: Was the space age spiritually neutral?

Many people would say yes. They would say rockets are simply technology. Space exploration is simply science. NASA is simply an agency. Program names are simply names. Masonic symbols are simply personal beliefs. Nazi scientists were simply useful technicians. But Bible believers should not be so quick to separate symbols, sources, and spiritual meaning.

The early space age carried troubling spiritual baggage. Nazi rocket expertise. Pagan names. Masonic symbolism. The honoring of Jack Parsons. The dream of mankind reaching heaven by his own power. These things may not prove a single hidden plot. But they do fit the pattern we have been tracing.

The old occult world did not disappear. It learned to speak the language of science, technology, and the stars.

The Nazi Rocket Inheritance
The American space program did not emerge from a morally clean beginning. One of its most famous figures was Wernher von Braun, the German rocket engineer who helped lead rocket development for Nazi Germany and later became a central figure in the American space program. This is not rumor. It is documented history.

Von Braun was a Nazi SS Officer and engineer developing the German V-2 rocket program during World War II. The V-2 was not merely a scientific achievement. It was a weapon. It was fired against European cities. It was also connected to forced labor and terrible suffering in the Nazi war machine.

After the war, von Braun and other German specialists were brought into American service through Operation Paperclip and related programs. Their expertise was used in military and aerospace development. Eventually, von Braun became one of the most celebrated public faces of the American Moon effort.

This presents a moral problem. The same technical knowledge that served Nazi weapons became part of the America ascent into space. The space age did not simply begin with smiling astronauts and patriotic music. It also came through war, secret weapons, compromised men, and the transfer of knowledge from a murderous regime into a new superpower. That should sober us.

Operation Paperclip and the Cold War
Operation Paperclip was not originally about fulfilling a noble dream of peaceful space exploration. It belonged to the postwar struggle for scientific, military, and technological advantage. The United States wanted German expertise before the Soviets got it. The Soviet Union wanted the same. The Cold War was beginning. Rockets, missiles, nuclear weapons, surveillance, and space power were all becoming part of the contest for global dominance.

This matters because the UFO age also began in that same atmosphere. World War II had ended. The atomic bomb had changed history. German secret weapons had shocked the Allies. Rocket science had entered a new era. Military and intelligence agencies were expanding their reach. The Cold War was beginning. And then, in 1947, the flying saucer entered the public imagination.

This does not prove that UFOs were Nazi technology, American technology, or Soviet technology. But it does show that the modern UFO story arose in a world already saturated with secrecy, weapons development, captured science, and fear of hidden power. That is part of the pattern. The world was being prepared to think in terms of advanced craft, secret programs, and powers above ordinary public knowledge.

Pagan Names for the Heavens
There is another aspect of the space age that deserves attention: the names. The early NASA manned space programs were given names from pagan mythology: Mercury, Gemini, Apollo. Later, the return-to-the-Moon program was named Artemis. To secular minds, this may seem harmless. After all, mythology is often used symbolically. Planets, rockets, military programs, companies, and products are often named after pagan gods and heroes. Many people do not think deeply about it.

But Bible believers should notice the symbolism. Mercury was the Roman messenger god, corresponding to Hermes. Gemini refers to the twins, Castor and Pollux, from Greco-Roman mythology. Apollo was a major Greek and Roman god associated with prophecy, music, healing, plague, archery, light, and the sun. Artemis was the twin sister of Apollo, associated with the moon, the hunt, wilderness, and other themes.

These were not biblical names. The ascent of America into the heavens was publicly clothed in the names of pagan gods and mythic figures. The public language of the space age drew from pagan imagination rather than biblical revelation. That is spiritually suggestive.

The God who made the heavens has a Name. His Word declares His glory. Yet the modern space age often reached for the language of ancient paganism to name the journey of mankind upward.

The heavens declare the glory of YHWH. Man named his missions after false gods.

The Heavens Belong to YHWH

The heavens are not empty. They are not spiritually neutral territory. They do not belong to Mercury, Apollo, Artemis, or any other false god. They declare the glory of the Creator. By choosing pagan gods to represent man's reach toward the heavens NASA reveals the spirit behind the missions. They show which story NASA is choosing to tell about itself. When modern man reaches for the heavens under the names of pagan gods, Bible believers should ask why.

Why not names drawn from creation? Why not names acknowledging the Maker of heaven and earth? Why pagan gods and mythic heroes? The answer may be simple: secular culture naturally draws from classical mythology because it has rejected the authority of Scripture. But that is exactly the point.

The space age did not rise under the banner of repentance, humility, and worship of YHWH. It rose under the banner of national ambition, military competition, human achievement, scientific pride, and mythological symbolism. The spiritual atmosphere was not neutral.

Buzz Aldrin and the Masonic Flag
Another part of this story is the Masonic connection. Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the Moon, was a Mason. Masonic sources identify him as a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason. They also say he carried a Scottish Rite flag to the Moon on Apollo 11. The flag featured the 33rd degree double-headed eagle and other Masonic symbols.

There is also the account that the Grand Master of Texas authorized Aldrin to carry a special deputation connected to establishing a symbolic Masonic representation on the Moon. It may be that Aldrin carried the Masonic flag to the Moon and back, not that he planted it on the lunar surface. The public flag planted on the Moon was the American flag. But even if the Masonic flag was only carried rather than planted, the symbolism is still striking. The first Moon landing was not only a national event. For some involved, it carried Masonic meaning.

This may not prove NASA as an agency was run by Masons. But it does show that Masonic symbolism went to the Moon with the permission of NASA. Why would NASA give such hallowed treatment to the Masonic cause and none other?  For Bible believers, that matters because Freemasonry is not spiritually neutral.

Masonic “Light” and the Biblical Warning
Freemasonry often speaks of light. It presents itself as a system of moral improvement, brotherhood, symbolism, and initiation. Many Masons insist that their order is not a religion. Many also deny that it is occult in any dangerous sense. But from a biblical standpoint, the problem remains.

Masonry uses oaths, degrees, symbols, temples, ritual language, hidden meanings, and religiously charged concepts. It draws from sources and symbolism outside the revelation of Scripture. High Scottish Rite literature has included esoteric, Kabbalistic, pagan, and even Lucifer-language elements.

Masonic defenders may tell the public that such language is misunderstood, that Lucifer is used in some other sense of light-bearer, so is not the Lucifer in the Bible. Really, what kind of organization defends Lucifer and attempts to rehabilitate his public image? The biblical issue is not solved by redefining terms. The Bible does not call us to seek hidden light through initiatory systems.

Yeshua said:

I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12

The true Light is not found through secret degrees. It is found in Messiah. Any system that offers spiritual light through initiation, symbolism, oaths, and hidden knowledge should be rejected by those who belong to YHWH. So when Masonic symbolism is carried into mankinds first landing on the Moon, we are not wrong to notice.

A Crater Named Parsons
There is also a lunar crater named Parsons, honoring Jack Parsons, the American rocketry pioneer we studied in the previous issue. Strictly speaking, lunar feature names are approved through official planetary-naming bodies, not simply by saying NASA named it. But the fact remains: a crater on the Moon bears the name of Jack Parsons. That is symbolically remarkable.

Parsons was a genuine rocketry figure. From that standpoint, it is understandable why his name appears in the story of space exploration. But Parsons was also a serious occultist, deeply involved in Crowley Thelema and ritual magic. He participated in the Babalon Working. His life joined rockets and ritual in a way few others did.

So now we have this strange picture: The Moon missions carried pagan program names. A 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason carried Masonic symbolism to the Moon. A lunar crater honors Jack Parsons, a rocketry pioneer and occult practitioner.

I am not saying that everything NASA has done is bad. I am saying that the spiritual symbolism surrounding mankinds reach into the heavens suggests a very different spirit behind it than the Spirit of the One True God who created the heavens.

He has given us other gifts and an eternal future in store. Elohim is One, and His love is like no other. He is the source of love and we have every reason to love Him.
