Space Age Babel Jack Parsons: Our series picks up here, at Jack Parsons, a real pioneer of American rocketry who was also deeply involved in the Aleister Crowley occult system of Thelema and ritual magic. Parsons showed us one of the clearest documented overlaps between early rocketry and the occult transition into the UFO Era. Remarkably, we also learned the space program named a crater on the moon after Parsons. The Nazi Rocket Inheritance: In World War II the Nazi SS were especially known for their dark and murderous occult connections. This brings us to the Nazi SS officer, Wernher Von Braun, who played a major role in developing the Nazi V-2 rocket program that was used with devastating effect against European cities. That program was also connected to forced labor and terrible suffering in the Nazi war machine. After the war, von Braun and hundreds of others who had served the Nazi cause were brought into American service as scientists and technicians through Operation Paperclip and related programs. Their expertise was used in military and aerospace development. Eventually, von Braun became one of the most celebrated public faces of the American Moon effort as a major figure in NASA. And many of his Nazi underlings were part of that too. Pagan Names for the Heavens: Another odd aspect of NASA caught our attention: the names. NASA early manned space programs were given names from pagan mythology: Mercury, Gemini, Apollo. Later, the return-to-the-Moon program was named Artemis. These were not biblical names. The American ascent into the heavens was publicly clothed in the names of pagan gods and mythic figures. The public language of the space age drew from pagan imagination rather than biblical revelation. That is spiritually suggestive. The God who made the heavens has a Name. His Word declares His glory. Yet the modern space age reached for the language of ancient paganism to name mankinds journey upward. Masons on the Moon: Another part of this story is the Masonic connection. Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the Moon, was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason. The Masons say he carried a Scottish Rite flag to the Moon on Apollo 11. The flag featured the 33rd degree double-headed eagle and other Masonic symbols. The Grand Master of Texas authorized Aldrin to carry a special deputation connected to establishing a symbolic Masonic representation on the Moon. The first Moon landing was not only a national event. It also carried a Masonic meaning. All of this is troubling because it points to an occult and humanist spirit behind the drive for man to ascend upward into the heavens. Babel and the Dream of Ascent: The biblical pattern behind all of this is Babel. After the flood, mankind gathered and said:
Babel was not merely a construction project. It was a spiritual project. They wanted unity without obedience. They wanted heaven without submission to the Lord of Heaven. They wanted a name for themselves, not for Him. The issue was not technology alone. The issue was the spirit behind the technology. Rockets are not evil simply because they go upward. Astronomy is not evil. Studying the heavens can lead a humble person to worship the Creator. But when mankind reaches upward in pride, under false names, through compromised powers, seeking to make a name for himself, the pattern echoes something very old. Babel never disappeared. It changed form. Let Us Make a Name: Genesis says they wanted to make a name for themselves. That phrase should not be missed. The modern space age is filled with names: Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Artemis, Saturn, Orion. Some are mythological. Some are heroic. Some are technical. Some are national. Some are commercial. But the question remains: Whose Name is being honored? The heavens were made by YHWH. The stars are His. The Moon is His. The planets are His. The earth is His, but He has delegated its use to us. Scripture says:
The Creator gave Man and Woman dominion over the earth, but He stopped there. Where and when did He ever place the heavens under the dominion of humans? Some might argue that the atmosphere around Earth, and even the magnetosphere around Earth are still Earth, and therefore under God-ordained dominion of Mankind. Some might even push the point to include the Moon, since technically speaking, the Moon lies within the influence of the earth magnetosphere. Even if we allow for that, what about the drive to Mars, and beyond? Yes, space travel as depicted by Star Trek, Star Wars, and other entertainment seems exciting. I have enjoyed watching some of that myself as fantasy. Yet, entertainment is no substitute for divine authorization. Make no mistake, the drive toward the heavens is not about honoring the Creator. It is about man making a name for himself. |

David wrote:
That is the right posture. Humility. Wonder. Worship. Recognition that man is small and YHWH is great. But the modern space-age imagination often moves in the opposite direction. It says man is becoming great. Man will ascend. Man will conquer space. Man will evolve. Man will become a cosmic species. Man will perhaps meet higher beings and enter a new age. That is not the humility of Psalm 8. It is much closer to the spirit of Babel than the Spirit of God. The UFO Connection: At this point, someone may ask: What does NASA have to do with UFOs? That is a fair question. NASA is not the same subject as UAPs. We should not confuse them. But NASA belongs to the larger space-age world in which the UFO mythos developed. The modern idea of alien visitors, space brothers, extraterrestrial civilizations, cosmic destiny, and disclosure all grew in the same cultural atmosphere that celebrated rockets, astronauts, Moon landings, and mankinds conquest of space. The UFO phenomenon became believable because the space age made the heavens feel reachable. Once rockets became real, flying saucers seemed more plausible. Once men walked on the Moon, the public imagination could more easily accept visitors from other worlds. Once the heavens became the next frontier, the old occult promise of hidden beings and higher knowledge could be dressed in space-age clothing. That is the connection. NASA does not need to be directly involved in UAPs for the space-age symbolism to matter. The public imagination was being shaped. The Spirit Behind the Reach: The question is not whether man can build rockets. The question is what spirit guides him as he reaches. If space exploration leads to wonder, humility, and worship of YHWH, then the heavens have done what Psalm 19 says they do: they declare the glory of God. But if space exploration feeds pride, pagan symbolism, hidden knowledge, occult contact, and dreams of human transcendence apart from the Creator, then the same heavens become a stage for rebellion. This is why the early space age cannot be treated as spiritually neutral. It gathered too many troubling elements: Nazi technical inheritance. Military competition. Pagan mythological names. Masonic symbolism. Occult-adjacent rocketry figures. Dreams of human ascent. Expectation of contact with higher beings. A growing mythos of cosmic destiny. All of this forms the cultural soil in which the modern UFO religion could grow. What We Can Say: So what can we responsibly say?
The Pattern: The pattern is not hard to see. The Nazi inheritance shows knowledge taken from a morally corrupt source carried into a new empire. The pagan names show mankind reaching the heavens under the symbols of false gods. The Masonic flag shows initiatory symbolism carried into the Moon landing. The Parsons crater shows the honoring of a man whose life joined rocketry and ritual magic. The UFO mythos shows mankind being prepared to receive revelation from nonhuman powers. These strands are not identical. They are not proof of one simple plot. But together they show that the space-age imagination has never been merely scientific. It is spiritual. It is mythic. It is occult. And it is filled with human pride. It is Babel with rockets. ********** While some folks imagine taming the universe the wise understand that simply taming the tongue is challenge enough. Who of us cannot benefit from some helpful tips from Scripture about what we say and how we say it? The book of James is outstanding in its teaching about speech. Tonight we will be featuring a great discussion from the book of James on the theme: Flowing Springs: Fresh or Bitter. That's tonight at 8 PM CST at Tsiyon.Net and on other popular streaming platforms. We all need to master effective communication, and this will help us do it.
